He can touch a Tiny nonmagical object and imbue it with one minor magical effect, such as shedding light, recording a message, emitting an odor or sound, displaying a written message, or showing a chosen visual effect. Appearance
Brinoc Taffet is a compact male halfling with a broad, capable face, russet-brown hair, and a neatly trimmed beard threaded with a few premature silver hairs. He stands with his weight balanced on the balls of his feet, as if perpetually ready to dodge a falling tool or lurching cart. His leather armor is slightly too large through the shoulders and carefully altered at the waist, with bright brass stitching marking every repair. The one immaculate item he owns is a small silver gear pendant, polished daily and worn beneath his shirt. His fingers are permanently darkened by oil and metal dust, no matter how thoroughly he scrubs them.
Mannerisms
When waiting, Brinoc rocks subtly from heel to toe while tapping a silent rhythm against his nearest piece of metal. He frequently pauses in the middle of a sentence to inspect a hinge, buckle, or loose thread, then resumes speaking as though no time has passed.
Personality
Brinoc is cheerful, nosy, and mechanically curious. He treats every problem as a puzzle with at least three solutions, preferably one that nobody else has considered. He is generous with repairs, suspicious of overly polished equipment, and delighted by anyone who can make him laugh at his own mistakes.
Ideals
Ingenuity. A tool is only truly valuable when it gives ordinary people the power to solve extraordinary problems. No tradition deserves respect if it cannot survive being improved.
Bonds
Brinoc carries the guild seal of his late mentor, Padrig Coilhand, and intends to restore the mentor's abandoned workshop before anyone else can claim it. He also feels responsible for every apprentice who was dismissed as clumsy or impractical, because he knows how often unusual ideas are mistaken for useless ones.
Flaws
Brinoc cannot leave a flawed mechanism alone, even when fixing it is dangerous, rude, expensive, or completely unrelated to the current problem. He is also quick to assume that people who dislike his inventions simply lack imagination.
Quirks
Background
Brinoc Taffet grew up in a halfling workshop district where every family had a specialty and every child learned to recognize the sound of a badly balanced wheel. His mother repaired clockwork looms, while his uncle made cooking utensils, hinges, and tiny mechanical toys that were sold at market. Brinoc had little patience for making anything exactly as it had been made before. He preferred finding the hidden weakness in a design, then correcting it with an odd angle, a spring in the wrong place, or a clever bit of wire. His experiments were rarely elegant, but they were often astonishingly effective.
