Appearance
Lynx is a lean, sharp-featured half-elf with copper-brown skin, dark auburn hair cut unevenly around the ears, and pale gray-green eyes that rarely stay on a speaker for long. Their gaze constantly maps the room, checking exits, loose hinges, candle flames, and anything that might be repurposed. When Lynx laughs, their upper lip lifts to reveal one slightly prominent canine and a neat row of small brass caps fitted over two back teeth, a practical gift from an old traveling smith. They wear weathered scale mail beneath a moss-green coat crowded with pouches, wire, folded maps, and tiny clockwork components. Their hands are usually stained with charcoal, oil, or berry juice.
Mannerisms
Lynx angles their head toward the nearest source of moving air whenever they enter a room. While thinking, they tap a fingernail against a metal component in a steady rhythm, and they often answer questions by first sketching the solution in the air with one finger.
Personality
Lynx is curious, practical, and cheerfully irreverent. They treat every obstacle as a design problem and every stranger as a possible source of useful information. They are quick to offer help, slow to accept authority, and happiest when traveling somewhere unfamiliar with just enough supplies to make failure interesting.
Ideals
Ingenuity. No tradition deserves obedience when a better solution can be built. The wilderness rewards people who adapt, experiment, and share what they learn.
Bonds
A weathered brass compass made by Lynx's father is the one possession they will never abandon. Its needle points toward an unknown location instead of north, and Lynx believes finding that place will reveal why their parents' old survey company vanished from the maps.
Flaws
Lynx cannot leave a broken mechanism alone, even when repairing it is dangerous, rude, or strategically foolish. They also assume that anyone who speaks confidently about a place has never actually traveled there.
Quirks
Background
Lynx was raised between two worlds and never felt obligated to choose only one. Their elven mother traveled with a survey company that charted old roads, ruined watchtowers, and forgotten settlements, while their human father repaired tools, traps, and field equipment for anyone who could pay. Lynx learned early that a broken hinge, a jammed wheel, or a badly balanced pack could matter more than a grand speech. They became the person who could make a working compass from a spoon, a spring, and stubbornness, then explain why everyone else had packed the wrong kind of rope.
“Lynx learned early that a broken hinge, a jammed wheel, or a badly balanced pack could matter more than a grand speech.”
