Appearance
Kat is a lean wood elf with copper-brown skin, dark green eyes, and thick black hair worn in a precise braid coiled at the nape of her neck. She keeps her uniform and gear meticulously clean, even after a march, and moves with a measured, quiet stride that makes her seem to arrive before anyone notices her approach. Her chain mail is carefully fitted beneath a weathered green cloak, and a row of tiny wooden beads on her braid records campaigns, patrols, and promises.
Mannerisms
Kat pauses before answering difficult questions, as though checking an invisible map. She straightens nearby objects without realizing it, keeps her back to walls when seated, and addresses strangers by rank or function until they give her a reason to use their name.
Personality
Kat is observant, restrained, and quietly protective. She rarely raises her voice, because she learned that the person who stays calm is often the one others follow. She has a dry sense of humor, a soldier's respect for preparation, and a deep fondness for people who admit when they are afraid but keep moving anyway.
Ideals
Duty means protecting people, not merely obeying orders. Any command that abandons the helpless has already forfeited its right to be followed.
Bonds
She carries the old regiment's standard and will risk almost anything to find the civilians lost during its final campaign.
Flaws
Kat has difficulty accepting that some losses cannot be corrected. She can become cold, relentless, and dangerously disobedient when someone in authority treats ordinary people as expendable.
Quirks
Background
Kat was raised among the deep woodland settlements of her elven kin, where patience was considered a form of strength and every trail carried a memory. She joined a border regiment after raiders began using the old forest roads, not because she loved war, but because she understood that someone had to stand watch while others slept. Her unusual speed and sharp senses made her an excellent scout, while her calm discipline earned her responsibility beyond her years. Among soldiers, she became known for returning from patrol with every arrow counted and every name remembered. Her unit eventually disbanded after a disastrous campaign in which a commanding officer abandoned a village to protect a supply train. Kat survived, but she never accepted the official report that called the loss unavoidable. She left the army with her rank intact, carrying the unit's battered standard and a list of civilians still missing. Now Kat travels as a fighter and investigator, seeking the truth behind that failure and offering protection wherever authority has become an excuse for cruelty. She still follows military habits, but she has begun to decide for herself what orders are worth obeying.
