Appearance
Hector is a broad-shouldered human man with weathered bronze skin, a square jaw, and iron-gray hair cropped close around a thinning crown. His dark eyes are steady and watchful, with fine lines earned from years of furnace light and mountain glare. He wears soot-darkened chain mail beneath heavy, rust-red vestments embroidered with small geometric sunbursts. His hands are scarred, callused, and permanently marked by old burns. A mythic warhammer hangs at his hip, while a deep copper mantle rests across his shoulders, its woven threads glowing faintly like embers beneath ash.
Mannerisms
Hector rubs his thumb across the nearest metal surface when thinking. He tests doors, bridges, and weapon hilts before trusting them. When angry, he speaks more quietly rather than raising his voice. Before casting a spell, he taps his holy symbol twice against his shield.
Personality
Hector is patient with honest mistakes, fiercely protective of laborers, and suspicious of anyone who treats power as decoration. He prefers direct questions, practical solutions, and long silences shared over a hot meal. Though stern in public, he has a dry sense of humor and an unexpected tenderness toward battered tools, stray animals, and people who insist they are beyond saving.
Ideals
Craftsmanship. What protects the vulnerable is holy, and anything holy must be maintained with one's own hands.
Bonds
The people of Hector's old foundry district are his family, and he will risk almost anything to keep them fed, housed, and free from predatory powers.
Flaws
Hector is stubborn to the point of self-destruction. He distrusts anything that cannot be repaired, measured, or put to useful work, including people who speak in abstractions. He also has a quiet fear that the voice in his mythic hammer is not divine guidance, but a will of its own gradually learning how to use him.
Quirks
Background
Hector grew up in a crowded foundry district where human smiths, miners, potters, and wheelwrights worked beneath a permanent veil of smoke. His mother repaired farm tools, his father cast cooking stoves, and Hector learned early that useful work was a form of prayer. He became known for mending cracked bells and warped plowshares, not because his work was elegant, but because it lasted. During a winter of famine, he found a fragment of black metal buried beneath an old shrine. When he struck it with a hammer, the forge fire burned white and spoke in the voice of a forgotten god of craft and guardianship. Hector entered the clergy reluctantly, convinced that temples needed people who understood hunger, broken hinges, and the cost of a roof that leaks. His faith is practical and stern. He blesses tools before battle, repairs weapons after funerals, and considers every act of protection a sacred craft. The black metal became Martillo del Alba, the Hammer of Dawn, a mythic warhammer that kindles with sun-bright flame when Hector defends someone weaker than himself. His copper mantle, the Vestments of the First Kiln, was woven by an entire guild after Hector saved their district from a salamander cult. He now travels because the voice in the hammer has begun pointing toward places where ancient divine fire is being stolen.
