Zook is a compact gnome with wild, copper colored hair that looks like it has been through several explosions. He wears leather goggles perpetually pushed up on his forehead and his leather apron is stained with various oils. His companion is a mechanical quadruped named Pebble, built from salvaged brass and silver, which hums with a low rhythmic vibration.

Zook talks faster than most people can listen. He is constantly fidgeting with small gears and seems more comfortable discussing the tension of a spring than his own feelings. He is relentlessly optimistic and believes every problem is simply a puzzle that has not been solved yet.

Zook was born into the bustling workshops of the Lantan Isles, where he spent his youth as an apprentice to a master horologist. While his peers were content making watches, Zook wanted to build life. He became obsessed with the idea of a self sustaining mechanical guardian after his library was raided by bandits. He spent years researching ancient schematics and mixing them with modern alchemy. Eventually, he succeeded in creating Pebble, his steel defender. However, his experiments often resulted in loud, colorful mishaps that led his guild to suggest he take his research on the road. Now, he travels the world seeking rare materials and lost knowledge to perfect his designs. He views the adventuring life as the ultimate testing ground for his inventions. Every dungeon is a lab and every monster is a data point.
