Appearance
Mariam is a slender half-elf woman with warm olive skin, dark hazel eyes, and thick black hair usually braided with small brass beads. Her pointed ears are partly hidden beneath a faded blue headscarf. She dresses in a practical traveling coat over light leather armor, with a well-used lute strapped across her back and a rapier at her hip. Her hands are callused from years of playing strings, mending instruments, and climbing rigging.
Mannerisms
Mariam taps a quiet rhythm against her thumb whenever she is thinking. Before telling a difficult truth, she tunes one string of her lute, even if the instrument is already perfectly tuned.
Personality
Mariam is warm, observant, and quick with a teasing remark. She treats strangers like friends until they prove otherwise, but she notices every exit, overheard name, and change in someone's tone. She is courageous when defending someone vulnerable, though she often disguises fear with theatrical confidence.
Ideals
Freedom. No one should be owned by a promise, a bloodline, or a tyrant. Every person deserves the chance to choose their own road.
Bonds
She carries her father's cracked brass tuning key, the only thing recovered after he disappeared on a caravan route. Mariam intends to learn what happened to him and bring his unfinished journey to an honest end.
Flaws
Mariam cannot resist investigating a mystery, even when discretion would be wiser. She also embellishes ordinary stories until she has convinced herself that the dramatic version is the true one.
Quirks
Background
Mariam Gvelesiani was raised in a multilingual port district where sailors, caravan guards, merchants, and wandering performers crossed paths every day. Her elven mother taught her old songs about moonlit forests, while her human father taught her the practical arts of bargaining, repairing instruments, and knowing when a stranger was lying. Mariam learned early that a song could open a locked door more easily than a threat, and that a well-timed joke could keep a tavern brawl from becoming a murder.
