Appearance
A broad-shouldered half-orc with warm olive-green skin, a rounded jaw, small lower tusks, and thick dark hair worn in a loose braid. His hands are unusually distinctive, with heavy calluses across the palms, flattened fingertips from years of gripping tools and weapons, and short, carefully trimmed nails. He stands with his weight slightly forward, as if ready to walk at any moment, and rarely settles fully onto both feet. His clothing is practical and weather-worn, layered for travel, with animal hide cordage and a carved bone charm tied around one wrist.
Mannerisms
When waiting, he leans slightly toward the next destination and keeps one hand resting near his belt, not his weapon. He tests unfamiliar water with the tip of one finger before drinking and pauses in conversation to listen for distant natural sounds.
Personality
Oru is quiet, observant, and unexpectedly gentle with frightened animals and exhausted travelers. He speaks plainly, dislikes needless ceremony, and has a dry sense of humor that often appears after everyone else has stopped panicking. He is slow to trust insults disguised as compliments, but once someone has earned his respect, he becomes steadfast and protective.
Ideals
No road belongs to one people. The strong should make passage safer for those who come after them.
Bonds
I will find the families of the travelers who died in the mountain caravan disaster and tell them the truth about what happened.
Flaws
I assume that anyone who gives a polished explanation is hiding the ugliest part of the truth.
Quirks
Background
Oru Mikkonen was raised along the cold river country where settled roads gave way to spruce forests, wind-scoured hills, and long stretches of silence. His human mother belonged to a traveling family of trappers and guides, while his half-orc father served as a caravan guard who never stayed in one place for long. Oru inherited both legacies. From his mother, he learned to read broken branches, animal tracks, cloud cover, and the taste of water. From his father, he learned that strength was not measured by how loudly a person threatened, but by whether they could keep others alive when fear took hold. When a winter caravan vanished in the high country, Oru joined the search. He found the survivors sheltering in a ravine, but also discovered that the disaster had been caused by a guide who had abandoned the group to save himself. Oru carried the injured travelers home one by one, then left the region rather than allow the guide's lies to become accepted history. Since then, he has wandered as a scout, hunter, caravan guard, and occasional monster slayer. He is still learning how to live among people who see his tusks before they see his patience, and he has begun adventuring because the road keeps presenting strangers who need someone strong enough to stand between them and the wilderness.
“From his mother, he learned to read broken branches, animal tracks, cloud cover, and the taste of water.”
