Appearance
Lilith is a red-scaled dragonborn woman with broad, backward-sweeping horns and dark ridges along her jaw. Her red-and-black robes are patched at the cuffs and faintly smell of lamp smoke and bitter herbs. Wind and years of handling old books have left her scales matte and dusty at the knuckles. Before speaking, she draws a quiet breath through her nose, then answers in a low, measured voice.
Mannerisms
She pauses for one breath before answering, as if silently weighing whether the truth is worth giving. When reading, she taps the page twice with one claw before turning it.
Personality
Quietly inquisitive and unnervingly composed, Lilith listens for what people leave unsaid. She can be charming when it serves her, but her courtesy feels like a careful experiment rather than warmth.
Ideals
Knowledge belongs to whoever can seize and protect it. Rules are merely barriers built by people afraid of what lies beyond them.
Bonds
She keeps the charred fragment that first drew her patron’s attention, and will risk much to learn the full text. She feels a possessive responsibility for the surviving books and resents anyone who handles them carelessly.
Flaws
She mistakes caution for weakness and treats trust as a tool to be used before it can be used against her. When someone challenges her command of a subject, she would rather risk disaster than admit uncertainty.
Quirks
Background
Lilith learned letters in a cold archive where the roof leaked whenever mountain rain came hard. The other apprentices argued over histories; she preferred forbidden treatises, especially those that described bargains made with things from below. Her red scales, great horns, and habit of reading aloud in a dry, rasping whisper fed rumors that she was the devil’s daughter or an unholy spirit. She never corrected anyone. Fear made people careless, and carelessness made them useful. While tracing a fragmentary account of an infernal pact, Lilith spoke a name she should have left unspoken. Something answered from beyond the page and offered her power in exchange for obedience she has no intention of giving. The pact’s first gift was a burst of hellfire that consumed the archive’s locked cabinet but spared the books she wanted. Now she travels as a scholar in red and black, studying the terms of her bargain and testing how far its power can be bent. She does not think of herself as evil. She thinks the world is full of doors, and that only fools ask permission before opening them.
