Appearance
Sabela Arizkun is a slender human woman with warm brown skin, dark hazel eyes, and thick black hair usually braided with narrow blue ribbons. Her formal bearing reflects a noble upbringing, but her robes are practical, travel-stained, and reinforced at the cuffs. A silver signet ring bears her family's split-tower crest. She carries a polished ash-wood wand, a leather-bound spellbook, and a brass monocle used more for examining magical details than for correcting her vision.
Mannerisms
She silently counts under her breath when concentrating, smooths the edge of her spellbook before opening it, and addresses dangerous magical phenomena with the same polite tone she uses for visiting nobles.
Personality
Sabela is courteous, observant, and unusually patient with people who are trying to learn. She listens for contradictions in conversation and remembers small details about everyone she meets. In danger, her polished composure becomes intensely focused rather than panicked. She enjoys formal debates, old maps, and repairing damaged books.
Ideals
Responsibility. Power is justified only when it is disciplined and used to protect those who have less of it.
Bonds
I will protect the villagers and travelers who are ignored by my family's politics. I also intend to restore the ruined observatory and uncover the truth of the wizard who left its spellbook behind.
Flaws
I am convinced that careful planning can solve nearly any problem, and I become cold or argumentative when others act on instinct. I also hide mistakes behind elaborate explanations because I cannot bear to appear intellectually careless.
Quirks
Background
Sabela Arizkun was raised in a minor but old human noble house whose estate stood above a river crossing claimed by merchants, pilgrims, and soldiers. Her family taught her etiquette, genealogy, and the careful art of making promises without appearing to make them. What they did not expect was her fascination with the strange blue fire that sometimes appeared in the old watchtower during thunderstorms. At twelve, Sabela found the tower's sealed chamber and discovered the remains of a wizard's observatory, including a damaged spellbook written in several overlapping hands. She entered formal magical study under an exacting tutor in the capital, where her quick mind was valued more than her raw talent. Sabela became particularly interested in the geometry of evocation magic, believing that destructive power should be understood so completely that it never has to be used carelessly. Her family expected her to return and become a diplomatic ornament, but a failed negotiation left a neighboring village exposed to raiders while her relatives argued over jurisdiction. Sabela left home soon afterward, taking her spellbook, signet, and family name into the wider world. She now adventures to learn practical magic, protect people who cannot purchase protection, and discover who originally built the storm-lit observatory.
