Appearance
Yunalia is a sturdy, weather-browned human with dark hair usually tied back in a loose tail and a habit of watching the ground before she looks at a person. Her patched travel coat fits poorly at the shoulders, but the cuffs of her shirt are clean and carefully mended. A small brass compass hangs from her belt, its casing polished smooth except for a deep, thumb-worn groove along one edge. Her spellbook is wrapped in oilcloth and tucked close beneath one arm.
Mannerisms
She often pauses before answering, as if checking her words against an invisible map. When concentrating, she traces tiny routes on her palm with one finger.
Personality
Patient and observant, Yunalia prefers to listen until she understands what a person is leaving unsaid. She is generous with practical help, but uneasy when anyone mistakes caution for fear.
Ideals
Knowledge is most useful when it helps someone find their way home. A fact hoarded is no better than a path left unmarked.
Bonds
She carries a compass her father repaired with a sliver of brass from an old kettle. She means to map a reliable route back to the settlement before another season of storms isolates it.
Flaws
When she believes she has found a pattern, she follows it too far, even when the people around her have good reason to turn back.
Quirks
Background
Yunalia grew up beyond the last maintained road, in a small human settlement whose hunters measured distance by streams, ridgelines, and the places where wind changed direction. Her mother taught her to read weather; her father taught her to keep a compass level and never trust a trail simply because it looked familiar. When a season of hard rain erased the old paths and cut the settlement off from its usual trade, Yunalia began keeping careful notes of safe crossings, edible plants, and the stars visible through breaks in the cloud.
