Appearance
Grick is a compact goblin with moss-green skin, large amber eyes, and a narrow face framed by uneven tufts of black hair. They wear patched leather armor beneath a stained green cloak, with tiny copper charms sewn into the hem. A polished wooden shield bears painted mushrooms, leaves, and the symbols of several distant guild halls. Grick's voice begins with a soft intake of breath and a thoughtful pause, as if every sentence must first pass inspection. They take up very little space when standing, but become startlingly animated when discussing plants, brewing, or woodland creatures.
Mannerisms
Before speaking, Grick pauses and draws in a quiet breath through their nose. They lean toward interesting smells, tap their shield when thinking, and carefully inspect cups, doorframes, and patches of moss for signs of craftsmanship or life.
Personality
Grick is curious, practical, and unexpectedly warm. They judge people by what they repair, protect, and share rather than by their manners or ancestry. They enjoy quiet company, strong tea, unusual fungi, and anyone who can discuss a craft without pretending to know more than they do. Grick is friendly but not deferential, and their kindness often arrives disguised as a stern warning about proper storage or safe handling.
Ideals
Creation. The world is not made better by grand promises, but by small useful things made carefully and shared freely.
Bonds
The ruined mill and the surviving members of Grick's old warren are their family. Grick sends part of every reward home and will risk almost anything to keep the mill's surrounding wetlands from being drained or claimed by wealthy developers.
Flaws
Grick becomes suspicious when anyone is too polite, assuming that every compliment conceals a bargain. They also hoard useful ingredients, tools, and information, even when sharing would clearly be wiser. When frightened, they may make an impulsive decision and justify it afterward as an act of ecological balance.
Quirks
Background
Grick was born beneath a ruined mill where a goblin warren had turned abandoned machinery into homes, workshops, and traps. They were expected to become a tinkerer, but Grick preferred the damp places beneath the floorboards, where mushrooms grew in old flour sacks and beetles nested in rusted gears. Their first real teacher was an elderly apothecary who recognized that Grick could tell poisonous fungi from edible ones by scent alone. The apothecary also taught them that useful work was a form of kindness, and that every living thing had a place in the larger pattern of the world. When a fire destroyed the warren, Grick joined a traveling guild of brewers, dyers, herbalists, and leatherworkers. They learned to make medicinal ales, preserve rare plants, and bargain with people who assumed a goblin could not be trusted. During a caravan journey, Grick was rescued from a bandit ambush by a circle of druids who saw their unusual instinct for living things. The druids taught them Druidic and the secrets of Wild Shape. Grick now travels as both artisan and guardian, seeking rare ingredients, protecting wild places from exploitation, and proving that a small, strange goblin can still make something beautiful that lasts.
