Their attention moves constantly to hands, belts, doorways, pockets, and exits, as if every room is a puzzle they are already solving. A small wooden flute hangs beside their lute, though they insist it is only for emergencies.

Tavi was born in a busy river-port neighborhood where merchants, pilgrims, and mountain traders crossed paths. Their family spoke Common at home and taught them enough Quechua to bargain, gossip, and recognize when someone was being cheated. Tavi learned early that a confident voice could open more doors than a strong back. They began by performing harmless songs for travelers, then expanded into staged fortunes, counterfeit letters of introduction, and carefully arranged reunions between people who had never met. Their most successful identity was that of a minor trade representative named Varo Szek, a polished young agent supposedly backed by a distant family office. The scheme collapsed when Tavi used it to expose a moneylender who had been seizing farmers' goods through forged contracts. The victims escaped, but Tavi's name became known to the wrong people. Now they travel as a bard, earning honest coin when possible and dishonest coin when necessary, while collecting stories, secrets, and evidence against the moneylender's associates. Tavi wants to become the sort of person who can protect others without needing a mask, but they are not yet certain who they are underneath all the practiced versions.
