Appearance
Aurelia is a tall, statuesque drow woman with obsidian skin, long silver-white hair braided with black iron rings, and vivid violet eyes. A spider-shaped birthmark spreads across her left shoulder, which she regards as a sacred sign of Lolth's favor. She wears dark mail beneath a severe noble's cloak, with a crimson sash bearing the Malice house sigil. Her greatsword is etched with devotional scripture, and a small silver spider hangs from her throat as a holy token.
Mannerisms
Aurelia speaks softly even when issuing threats, as though volume would cheapen the certainty of her words. She pauses before answering simple questions, studying the speaker as if searching for a hidden confession. When irritated, she slowly turns her signet ring inward so the spider emblem presses against her palm.
Personality
Aurelia is intensely observant, disciplined, and unnervingly sincere. She treats conversation as interrogation, courtesy as a weapon, and coincidence as a message from Lolth. She is patient with the frightened, contemptuous toward the uncertain, and fascinated by people who betray themselves through tiny changes in posture or speech.
Ideals
Purity through fear. A web survives because every strand is tested, and every weak strand is cut away. Loyalty to Lolth and House Malice must be proven through obedience, suffering, and victory.
Bonds
House Malice is the only family worthy of her loyalty, and Aurelia will do anything to restore its dominance. She also carries a sealed list of suspected heretics, including one name she has not yet dared to investigate: her own mother.
Flaws
Aurelia cannot leave suspicion unanswered. She would rather destroy a useful alliance than tolerate uncertainty, and she is incapable of admitting that Lolth may have allowed her to be wrong.
Quirks
Background
Aurelia Malice was born first among the daughters of Great House Malice, and from the moment she could walk, her family treated her existence as both a weapon and a potential sacrifice. Her tutors taught her genealogy, etiquette, poison lore, and the proper forms of worship owed to Lolth. Aurelia excelled at all of it, but her devotion quickly became something more consuming. She began interpreting every misfortune, betrayal, and political reversal as evidence of hidden heresy. Before long, she was not merely a noble daughter, but an inquisitor who kept secret records of every servant, cousin, priest, and rival whose faith seemed insufficiently fervent. When a favored priestess of Lolth vanished during a house ritual, Aurelia demanded an investigation. Her accusations exposed a genuine conspiracy, but they also implicated members of her own family. Rather than quietly accept the matter as settled, Aurelia pursued the suspected traitors through the Underdark, executing one and driving another into exile. Her actions preserved House Malice's reputation, yet made her too dangerous to keep nearby. The house sent her away under the pretense of a diplomatic mission, ordering her to gather intelligence and test the loyalty of distant settlements. Aurelia accepted eagerly. She believes every road leads to a web of treachery, and that Lolth has chosen her to tear it apart, thread by thread.
“Her tutors taught her genealogy, etiquette, poison lore, and the proper forms of worship owed to Lolth.”
