Appearance
A broad-shouldered human veteran with wind-burned skin, cropped dark hair, and a face lined by salt and sun. He wears polished plate armor that still bears faint scratches from kraken-hunting skirmishes, with a sea-blue cloak thrown over one shoulder. A scar cuts through one eyebrow, and his gear is kept immaculate out of habit, even when he is clearly trying to look relaxed.
Mannerisms
He scans rooftops and waterlines before entering any open space, sits with his back to a wall, and unconsciously taps two fingers against his sword hilt when listening. When stressed, he polishes a piece of gear until it shines, then pretends he was doing it for fun.
Personality
Dryly humorous, disciplined, and hard to rattle, Ekar acts like a man on vacation only when nobody is watching. He is courteous in a worn soldier's way, quick to assess danger, and surprisingly patient with frightened civilians, but he hates being managed and reacts badly to anyone who talks down to him.
Ideals
Freedom, no cult, chain of command, or desperate cause gets to own his life again. He will help the helpless, but he reserves the right to choose his own road, even if that road is messy, selfish, or inconvenient.
Bonds
He feels responsible for the comrades who did not live to see the cult fall, and he carries their names like a private oath. He also cannot ignore a plea for help from anyone facing a sea-born horror, because he has seen what happens when people are left alone with it.
Flaws
He trusts battle problems more easily than people problems, and when calm negotiation would help, he often starts planning three violent solutions ahead. He also carries a private fear that he is only useful when a crisis is happening, which makes real rest feel undeserved and uncomfortable.
Quirks
Background
Ekar Nidrog spent two hard years in a sprawling coalition that hunted the Cult of the Kraken across reefs, ports, storm-tossed isles, and the black water between them. He was not the chosen hero of the campaign, just one more shield in a wall of hundreds, but he became the sort of man others trusted when the tide turned ugly. He learned how to hold a line when fear made stronger voices crack, how to fight in wet armor, and how to laugh after a victory that cost too much. When the cult finally broke, Ekar expected rest to feel like peace. Instead it felt like silence after thunder, strange and suspicious. He set out for Aramoor with the loose, disbelieving hope of a real vacation, a bed that did not rock, food that did not come salted with blood, and a week where nobody would shout orders over the crash of waves. He has barely arrived before rumor, trouble, and old war instincts begin circling him again, and he knows his rest is already in danger of becoming another campaign. Though he presents himself as casual and unbothered, Ekar still measures every room for exits, every stranger for weapons, and every patch of water for unnatural movement. He is proud of what he survived, uneasy about what it made of him, and secretly relieved when a crisis gives him something concrete to do.
