Appearance
Lean and quick-eyed, dressed in dark, well-worn leathers that make no sound. Keeps to the edges of a room, hands never far from a hidden blade or a set of well-used lockpicks. Moves like someone who has spent a lifetime not being noticed. Silver-green hair is tied back with leather cord, and their sharp elven features are marked by the wary stillness of a professional listener. Their boots are soft-soled, their gloves scarred by old work, and their gaze constantly measures doors, windows, and shadows.
Mannerisms
Speaks only after weighing every word, often pausing as if listening to a sound no one else can hear. Sits where they can see every exit, taps two fingers against their wrist when thinking, and unconsciously circles a room before settling into a seat. When nervous, they check their tools by touch rather than sight.
Personality
Sharp, observant, and slow to trust. Veylin speaks little, but misses nothing. They are the sort of person who counts exits before they count coin, and who remembers a favor long after everyone else has forgotten the debt. Once someone proves reliable, Veylin becomes fiercely loyal, but betrayal earns a very personal and very patient kind of retaliation.
Ideals
Freedom. No law, guild, or crown should own a person's future. Everyone deserves one honest chance to choose who they become, even if they have made a living by dishonest means.
Bonds
They owe their freedom, and perhaps their life, to an older accomplice who took the fall for them. Veylin will not let that debt be forgotten, and will cross dangerous lines to repay it.
Flaws
Veylin assumes every kindness has a hidden price, and they sometimes test people by being distant or difficult before they trust them. In tense moments they can become recklessly self-reliant, preferring to solve a problem alone rather than risk owing anyone another debt.
Quirks
Background
Veylin Thistledown was born beneath a canopy of ancient trees, but never truly belonged to the quiet life of the grove. Curiosity brought them to the edge of the city, hunger kept them there, and theft taught them how to survive. By the time they were old enough to understand shame, they already knew how to slip a coin from a merchant's belt, how to read the temper of a watch patrol, and how to vanish into a crowd before the shouting began. They learned to survive by being the smallest thing in the room, a habit that became second nature long after survival stopped being their only goal. A bad run with a local thieves' crew left Veylin with a broken trust and a fresh appreciation for living alone on their own terms. They never forgot the faces of the people who bought and sold them, nor the one person who once covered their escape and paid for it with a prison sentence. Since then, Veylin has walked a narrow road between old habits and hard-won restraint. They still steal when the situation demands it, but they now choose their marks with care, preferring cruel employers, corrupt officials, and anyone who mistakes quiet for weakness. They keep one eye on redemption, one hand on a blade, and both feet ready to run if the past comes knocking.
