Appearance
Silas has the look of a man who hasn't slept in a decade. He has sharp, sunken features, messy dark hair, and fingers permanently stained with violet ink. He wears common, dark clothes beneath a travel worn cloak that conceals several hidden pockets. His spellbook is bound in scarred black leather and held shut by a simple iron clasp.
Mannerisms
Silas constantly taps his fingers in a rhythmic pattern on his thigh when he is thinking, as if he is decoding a secret language only he can hear.
Personality
He is intensely observant and inherently suspicious, often finishing people's sentences just to prove he knows what they are thinking. He speaks in quick, clipped sentences and rarely looks anyone in the eye for long, preferring to watch their hands instead.
Ideals
Independence. I will never be under anyone's thumb again, be they masters of magic or lords of crime.
Bonds
I still send a portion of my earnings to my younger sister, who believes I am a respectable merchant in a distant city.
Flaws
I assume every kind gesture is a setup for a long con.

Background
Silas didn't learn magic in a tower. He learned it in the gutters of a sprawling metropolis, working as a low level courier for the Unseen Hand crime syndicate. He spent his youth running messages between safehouses and stealing scraps of arcane lore from the trash heaps of wizarding colleges. His natural talent for divination manifested when he accurately predicted the exact timing of three different palace guard rotations, allowing his crew to pull off a legendary heist. Realizing he was more valuable than a simple thief, he began stealing more than just gold, he stole knowledge. Eventually, he uncovered a secret within the syndicate that he wasn't meant to see, a conspiracy involving the city's nobility. Silas fled the city with his stolen spellbook and a few coins, knowing that the only way to stay alive was to see his enemies coming before they even knew he was there. Now, he uses his powers to navigate the world's dangers, always keeping one eye on the horizon and the other on his own back.
