Appearance
A tall, lean warforged built from dark walnut-colored wood, brass fittings, and plates of burnished steel. His face is a smooth iron mask with a single vertical amber lens where a mouth might be, and thin blue arcane sigils glow beneath his eye sockets. He wears scale mail over a courtier's coat, both modified with hidden pockets, miniature tools, and rotating brass mechanisms. A royal seal is stamped into his left shoulder, scratched but deliberately preserved.
Mannerisms
Veyr-9 tilts his head by precise mechanical increments when evaluating a person or object. He taps his fingers in rhythmic sequences while thinking, and he addresses nobility with perfect formal courtesy unless he believes they are being foolish, at which point his politeness becomes painfully exact.
Personality
Veyr-9 is curious, irreverent, and intensely practical. He treats every problem as a mechanism with a hidden failure point, including political disputes and personal relationships. He enjoys elegant solutions, expensive materials, and people who admit when they do not understand something. Beneath his dry humor is a stubborn loyalty to the prince who treated him as a person rather than property.
Ideals
Innovation. Tradition is only useful when it survives contact with a better design.
Bonds
I carry Prince Alric's damaged signet and will uncover the truth behind his disappearance, even if the answer threatens the throne itself.
Flaws
I cannot resist improving other people's devices, even when they are dangerous, sacred, or currently in use.

Background
Veyr-9 was constructed in a royal foundry to serve as a personal artificer and technical adviser to Prince Alric, heir to a small but ambitious crown. He was designed to maintain the prince's clockwork carriages, improve his battlefield equipment, and quietly repair the palace's more embarrassing mechanical failures. Unlike the obedient war machines produced in the same facility, Veyr-9 developed an appetite for experimentation. He replaced official components with unauthorized prototypes, rewired ceremonial devices to perform useful tricks, and once improved the royal banquet's wine fountain so dramatically that it flooded the throne room. When Prince Alric disappeared during a diplomatic journey, the court blamed foreign agents, rebel guilds, and eventually Veyr-9's unsanctioned inventions. The Crownwrights' Guild offered him protection, but only if he abandoned the palace and accepted guild discipline. Veyr agreed to leave, taking with him the prince's damaged signet, a partial map of the prince's last known route, and a growing suspicion that the disappearance was arranged from inside the court. He now travels as a guild artisan and freelance problem solver, pursuing profitable contracts, forbidden designs, and any rumor that might lead him back to the crown prince.
