Appearance

A lean, broad-shouldered half-elf woman with weather-browned skin, dark auburn hair cut to her jaw, and gray-green eyes flecked with amber. Her pointed ears are partly hidden beneath a weathered hood. She carries herself like someone accustomed to steep trails and sudden danger, with a faded scar across her left knuckle and a small bronze charm braided into her hair.

Mannerisms

She pauses before entering any room to study exits, windows, and airflow. While thinking, she rubs the bronze charm in her hair between two fingers. She rarely sits with her back exposed and instinctively angles her body toward the nearest source of natural light.

Personality

Quietly observant and practical, Neskra speaks little until she has measured the people around her. She is patient with the frightened, suspicious of the comfortable, and unexpectedly gentle with animals. She prefers useful deeds to grand speeches, but once she gives someone her word, she treats it as binding.

Ideals

Stewardship. The land does not belong to the powerful. Those who take from it must answer for what they destroy.

Bonds

She carries her mother's compass and has sworn to restore the boundary markers of the burned cedar valley. She also feels responsible for anyone who becomes lost under her protection.

Flaws

She is slow to trust settled authorities and assumes that any official explanation is hiding a second motive. When she feels helpless, she becomes reckless, taking dangerous risks rather than admitting she needs help.

Quirks

Names unfamiliar birds and insects aloud before realizing she is speaking.
Leaves small piles of stones beside trails as private markers.
Sleeps lightly with one hand resting on her bow.
Refuses to step over a blade or walking stick without first moving it aside.

Background

Neskra Veyr was raised along the cedar ridges beyond the last surveyed road, where her human mother served as a trail guide and her elven father maintained old boundary markers no mapmaker remembered. From both of them she learned that the wilderness was not empty. It was a living network of tracks, weather, water, and old promises. Neskra became the settlement's scout before she was old enough to carry a full bow, guiding hunters through ravines and leading lost travelers home by starlight. When a logging expedition burned a stretch of protected woodland, Neskra found the company had deliberately destroyed the boundary markers to conceal its trespass. She tracked the foremen across three valleys, but arrived too late to stop them from killing the village's oldest guide. Since then, she has traveled beyond her homeland, hunting the people responsible while helping isolated communities resist those who treat the wild as property. She is not interested in revenge for its own sake. She wants the roads, rivers, and forests to remain places where ordinary people can still survive.
