Appearance
S'Satrams is a compact, broad-shouldered dwarf with a carefully braided russet beard threaded with tiny brass rings. He favors his left side slightly when walking because his right hip carries a heavy tool harness, giving him a distinctive rolling gait. His dark brown eyes are bright with constant calculation, and his soot-stained fingers are rarely still. He wears scale mail beneath a leather apron covered in pockets, clamps, wire spools, and tiny labeled vials. His giant robot companion, Brindle-9, stands nearly seven feet tall, built from riveted iron plates, hardwood braces, and salvaged brass fittings.
Mannerisms
S'Satrams taps metal surfaces three times before touching them, mutters measurements under his breath, and unconsciously checks the tension of the same strap on his tool harness whenever he is worried. He speaks to Brindle-9 as though the construct were standing in a crowded room, even when Brindle-9 is several streets away.
Personality
S'Satrams is patient with machines, children, and anyone willing to learn, but becomes intensely focused when solving a technical problem. He asks blunt questions, takes religious duties seriously, and treats every malfunction as a conversation rather than a failure. He is quietly delighted by elegant mechanisms and has a habit of giving names to tools that have served him well.
Ideals
Creation. To build is to participate in the work of the divine. Every careful invention should make the world safer, kinder, or more wondrous.
Bonds
Brindle-9 is not merely my invention. He is my friend, and I will cross any distance or face any danger to repair him, defend him, or prove that his will is his own.
Flaws
I become stubborn and argumentative when someone calls a living construct a mere machine. I also trust a clever design more readily than I trust a person, even when the design is clearly trying to kill me.
Quirks
Background
S'Satrams was raised among the forge-priests of a dwarven sanctuary where devotion was expressed through patient workmanship. He learned that a well-made hinge, a properly balanced gear, and a carefully spoken prayer all served the same purpose, they brought order to a world that constantly tried to fall apart. While studying old temple diagrams, he became fascinated by descriptions of guardian spirits housed in metal vessels. His elders considered the idea impractical, but S'Satrams considered impracticality merely a problem that had not yet met enough tools. Over twelve years, he built Brindle-9 from discarded mining machinery, broken reliquaries, and a furnace-heart of his own design. The construct was intended to be a guardian, but Brindle-9 became a companion instead, curious, literal-minded, and devoted to protecting S'Satrams from dangers both physical and theological. S'Satrams now travels beyond the sanctuary to test his inventions, recover lost craft-lore, and prove that creation can be an act of reverence. He believes every life, whether born in flesh or assembled in a workshop, deserves the chance to choose what it will become.
