Appearance
A slim half-elf with warm bronze skin, pointed ears, and shoulder-length raven hair streaked with silver. Their amber eyes are bright with amusement, and a small constellation of beauty marks circles the left eye. They dress in a well-maintained leather coat over a crimson performer’s costume, with a silver lute pick worn as a pendant and a rapier at their hip.
Mannerisms
Elian punctuates serious statements with tiny flourishes of the fingers, as though conducting an invisible orchestra. They bow slightly when introducing themselves, hum while thinking, and address inanimate instruments as if they were old friends.
Personality
Warm, theatrical, and relentlessly observant, Elian treats every room as a stage and every stranger as a possible future ally. They are quick with a joke, quicker with a compliment, and surprisingly serious about protecting people who are ignored by the powerful. Beneath the confidence is a persistent fear that if they ever stop performing, everyone they love will disappear for good.
Ideals
Freedom. No ruler, patron, or powerful guild should own another person’s voice. Stories belong to the people who live them.
Bonds
The scattered members of the Vey family troupe are alive somewhere, and Elian will risk almost anything to reunite them. They also carry the troupe’s battered first lute as a reminder of where their story began.
Flaws
Elian cannot resist turning a dangerous situation into a performance, even when silence would be wiser. They also distrust wealthy patrons so deeply that they sometimes reject genuine help and insult potential allies.
Quirks
Background
Elian Vey grew up between two worlds, the child of an elven traveling musician and a human puppeteer whose small troupe crossed kingdoms in search of appreciative crowds. Elian learned early that a song could open a locked door, calm an angry guard, or make a grieving stranger smile. Their first instrument was a battered lute with three mismatched strings, and their first audience was a rain-soaked village square where nobody had paid to listen. By the end of the evening, the villagers had filled the family’s hat with coins, apples, and one extremely confused chicken. Years later, the troupe’s fortunes changed when a wealthy patron hired them to perform at a private celebration. During the final act, Elian noticed that the patron’s guests were not celebrating at all. They were plotting a violent seizure of the city council. Elian improvised a comic ballad that hid a warning in its verses, allowing a sympathetic servant to alert the authorities. The conspiracy failed, but the patron escaped, and the troupe scattered under threat of retaliation. Elian now travels as a wandering bard, using music, charm, and carefully chosen lies to find the missing members of their troupe and expose the fugitive mastermind. Every performance is both an act of defiance and a promise that their family will one day share a stage again.
