Appearance
Tesoro is a broad-shouldered triton with deep cobalt skin, silver-green eyes, and a swept-back crest of dark teal fin-spines. Thin coral scars trace the left side of his jaw, remnants of a harpoon line accident. He wears a salt-stained blue coat over practical sailor's clothes, with brass buttons taken from ships that no longer exist. His viol is built from black mangrove wood and whale-bone fittings, its strings made from treated kelp fiber. A small red cord is tied around one wrist, marking him as a sworn member of the Bloodscale Omen's crew.
Mannerisms
Tesoro taps quiet rhythms against his wrist whenever he is thinking. He tilts his head toward walls, floors, and ship hulls as though listening for distant currents. When someone lies to him, his smile becomes perfectly still.
Personality
Tesoro is warm, theatrical, and observant, with the practiced charm of someone who has calmed frightened crews during storms. He remembers names, insults, favorite drinks, and the exact promises people make when they think no one is listening. Beneath his easy humor is a disciplined navigator's mind that is always measuring distance, exits, tide, and danger.
Ideals
No one should be forgotten. The dead, the lost, and the powerless deserve a voice, even when giving them one makes the living uncomfortable.
Bonds
The Bloodscale Omen's crew is his chosen family, and he will risk almost anything to bring every member home. He also carries his mother's tide ledger, believing one missing entry points to the true origin of the ship's strange pursuer.
Flaws
Tesoro treats every disagreement as a negotiation he can win, and he keeps talking long after silence would be wiser. He is deeply suspicious of land-dwellers who claim not to believe in sea omens, yet he is superstitious enough to alter an entire voyage over a badly timed gull cry.
Quirks
Background
Tesoro Del Rio was raised beneath the storm shelves of the Azure Trench, where triton children learned currents before they learned letters. His mother kept tide ledgers for a reef-city magistrate, while his older brothers served in the pearl guard. Tesoro had little patience for military drills, but he possessed an uncanny ear for pressure changes, whale-song, and the subtle groan of timber under strain. He turned those instincts into music, first playing shell pipes at mourning rites and later composing sharp, rhythmic songs that could keep divers moving in dangerous water. He met the crew of the Bloodscale Omen after a surface vessel sank above his home waters. The ship's survivors were frightened, armed, and certain that tritons meant to rob them. Tesoro calmed the standoff by singing the names of every sailor lost in the wreck, names he had learned from the wreckage itself. Captain and crew never forgot it. He joined them as a navigator, negotiator, and morale keeper, though he privately suspects the Bloodscale Omen is being followed by something intelligent beneath the waves. Tesoro's music now carries coded warnings, old triton sea-law, and stories meant to remind the crew that no ocean keeps its dead entirely silent.
