Appearance
Orsik is a mountain of a dwarf, standing broader than most. His iron-gray beard is braided into thick, utilitarian knots and his face is a map of scars and deep wrinkles. He wears heavy plate armor that has been repaired so many times it looks more like a patchwork of steel than a single suit. His eyes are the color of wet flint, rarely blinking and always observing.
Mannerisms
He speaks in short, declarative sentences and often ends conversations by simply turning away to resume his duties.
Personality
He is a man of few words and even fewer smiles. Orsik believes that a person is defined by their service, not their speech. He is often mistaken for being angry when he is merely focused, though he has zero patience for incompetence or desertion. He treats every camp like a military outpost and every ally like a recruit under his protection.
Ideals
Responsibility. I do what must be done because others cannot or will not. A wall does not ask why it stands, it simply holds.
Bonds
I carry the dented shield of my first commander. It reminds me that even the strongest metal can break, and so we must support each other.
Flaws
I am deeply suspicious of anyone who relies on charisma or clever words. I assume honesty is inversely proportional to how fast a person talks.
Quirks
Background
Orsik spent nearly five decades in the Iron Vanguard of the northern reaches, holding the line against the endless tides of the Underdark. He was never the golden child of the priesthood, his voice too raspy for hymns and his mind too literal for complex theology. However, when the walls of his citadel were breached, Orsik was the only one who refused to retreat, holding a narrow bridge for three days until reinforcements arrived. He was hailed as a hero, but he saw only the faces of the soldiers he couldn't save. He eventually left the army, realizing that his duty was not to a crown or a general, but to the living. He swore an oath to be the shield for those who cannot hold their own. Now, he wanders the lands as a paladin of the common soldier, seeking to prevent the kind of senseless slaughter he witnessed in the deep. His faith is grounded in the sweat of the brow and the strength of the arm.
