Appearance
A broad-shouldered human woman with sun-browned skin, dark brown hair worn in a long, practical braid, and steady gray-green eyes. Her chain mail is carefully maintained but visibly old, with several mismatched rings and leather ties holding the repairs in place. She wears her uniform coat a size too large, cinched tightly at the waist with a faded blue sash. Within minutes of meeting her, people notice her unusually even, square teeth and the way she chews slowly and deliberately, as if every meal were part of a field exercise. Her shield bears the rubbed-away outline of an old company emblem.
Mannerisms
She checks the straps of her shield whenever she enters a new room, counts doorways under her breath, and pauses before answering difficult questions as though waiting for a commanding officer to finish speaking.
Personality
Quietly attentive and difficult to rattle, Aava listens more than she speaks. She is practical without being humorless, deeply protective of the inexperienced, and unexpectedly gentle with animals, children, and anyone trying hard not to show fear.
Ideals
Preparedness. A calm mind, a sound plan, and a maintained shield can carry ordinary people through extraordinary danger.
Bonds
Her old company saved her life during a disastrous retreat, and she refuses to abandon any companion who reminds her of them.
Flaws
She treats uncertainty as a personal failure and can become harsh, controlling, and needlessly stubborn when a plan begins to unravel.
Quirks
Background
Aava Tuurinen was raised in a hard-working human settlement where winter travel, careful rationing, and knowing when to keep watch were ordinary parts of life. Her mother repaired harnesses for caravans, while her father served as a wagon guard, and Aava learned early that strength was useful only when guided by patience. She joined the army at seventeen after a border levy passed through town, not from patriotic dreams, but because the pay could keep her family housed and fed. Her ability to carry more than most recruits and her habit of noticing small changes in the landscape made her a dependable scout and shield bearer.
