Appearance
Arannis is a Wood Elf of striking intensity, possessing the lean, coiled musculature of a predator. His dark raven hair is tightly braided back, revealing high, sharp cheekbones and eyes the color of a winter storm. He eschews the heavy plate armor typical of his station, favoring midnight-blue studded leather and a dark, weathered cloak that blends into the forest shadows. He carries a silver-pommeled rapier and a shield etched with the symbol of a weeping eye.
Mannerisms
He has a habit of sharpening his blade with a slow, rhythmic stone stroke when thinking and tends to tilt his head like a raptor when listening.
Personality
Arannis is quiet and observant, preferring to let others speak first while he gauges their intent. He is a man of few words, believing that every breath spent on idle talk is a second lost in pursuit of his quarry. Despite his criminal past, he holds a rigid internal code, viewing himself as the necessary darkness that must exist to excise the truly corrupt.
Ideals
Retribution. No act of betrayal should go unpunished, for to ignore a wrong is to invite a thousand more.
Bonds
I seek the lieutenant who left me for dead, and I carry a broken silver coin as a reminder of the syndicate I must dismantle.
Flaws
My suspicion of others borders on paranoia, and I often struggle to see the difference between a minor transgression and a mortal sin.
Quirks
Background
Born in the dense thickets of the High Forest, Arannis spent his youth as a courier for the Silken Shadows, a criminal organization that exploited elven border magic. He was a master of the backstreets and forest paths, smuggling artifacts and silence in equal measure. His life changed when his gang orchestrated a betrayal, leaving him for dead to cover a theft that had gone bloody. While bleeding out among the roots, he did not find a god, but rather found a cold, iron-clad resolve that refused to let him die until his betrayers were brought to ruin. This inner conviction transformed into his Oath of Vengeance, turning his illicit skills into tools of holy retribution. He no longer steals for coin, he hunts for justice. He uses the very shadows he once hid in to stalk those who believe they are above the law. His quest has led him away from the forest and into the world of men, where the rot of betrayal is far more prevalent.
