Appearance
Teyra is a lean, long-limbed elf with weather-browned skin, dark copper hair usually tied low with a strip of old blue cloth, and steady gray-brown eyes. She wears practical leather armor softened by years of oiling, a green cloak patched at both shoulders, and a plain iron cooking cup that hangs from her belt. The cup is visibly worn smooth along one side from the way she grips it when thinking. Within a minute of meeting someone, it becomes clear that Teyra rarely looks first at a person's face. Her attention goes to doorways, hands, windows, and the nearest route through the room.
Mannerisms
Teyra turns her iron cup slowly in one hand while listening. She pauses before answering difficult questions, glances toward exits whenever she enters a room, and quietly names unfamiliar plants under her breath. When nervous, she checks the knots on her quiver strap.
Personality
Quietly attentive and practical, Teyra is more comfortable mending a boot or sorting herbs than making conversation. She is patient with frightened animals and sick people, but impatient with boastful adventurers. Her humor is dry, usually arriving several minutes after everyone else has stopped talking.
Ideals
Knowledge should prevent suffering, not merely explain it. If a danger can be understood, it can be faced, and if it can be faced, people should not be abandoned to it.
Bonds
The hidden garden and ruined watch hut that sheltered her are still her responsibility. She will return to defend them, and to protect the scattered families who rely on the remedies she developed there.
Flaws
Teyra assumes every kindness has a hidden cost, and she can become cold or evasive when someone asks about her years of isolation. She also has a habit of pursuing a mystery long after common sense says to leave it alone.
Quirks
Background
Teyra grew up along the timber roads where elven settlements met human farms, learning early that the wilderness was not empty space. It was a layered thing, full of old paths, animal territories, buried markers, and dangers that announced themselves only to people willing to wait. Her mother taught her the names of useful plants, while a human trapper named Omet showed her how to read bent grass, disturbed stones, and the silence left by frightened birds. Teyra became the person travelers sought when a child wandered off or a hunting party failed to return. After a fever swept through her settlement, Teyra withdrew to a ruined watch hut in the hills. She spent several years tending a hidden garden, copying observations into scraps of bark paper, and studying the strange pattern of illnesses that had passed through the valley. Her isolation ended when she found signs that the fever had not been natural. Someone had carried contaminated water between settlements, and the trail led beyond the familiar forests. Teyra left her hut with her notes, her bow, and her battered cooking cup. She now travels to identify the source of the sickness, protect those who cannot protect themselves, and learn whether the wilderness is warning her about a greater threat.
