Appearance
Zabok is a tall, compact warforged built from dark walnut-colored wood, blackened iron, and narrow bands of brass. Their face is a smooth mask with a horizontal grille where a mouth might be, and two pale blue lenses set beneath a heavy brow plate. They wear a soldier's worn leather coat over their integrated armor, but the coat is too short in the sleeves and carefully repaired with bright red thread. Their left shoulder bears a polished brass insignia that they clean every morning, while the rest of their equipment is practical, weathered, and slightly mismatched. Zabok stands unusually still when listening, occupying exactly the amount of space required and no more.
Mannerisms
Zabok announces routine actions in a quiet report-like voice, such as stating that they are sitting, eating, or entering a room. When someone speaks emotionally, they angle their head by exactly a few degrees and remain motionless until they have chosen a response. They polish their brass insignia whenever they are anxious.
Personality
Zabok is precise, restrained, and unfailingly punctual. They prefer direct questions, written agreements, and plans with clearly assigned responsibilities. Although they appear emotionally distant, they are intensely attentive to practical needs, noticing who is tired, who has not eaten, and which strap on a companion's pack is about to fail. Zabok is slowly learning that loyalty can exist without orders and that kindness does not always need to be recorded as an obligation.
Ideals
Order. A promise, once properly given, creates structure in a chaotic world. Zabok believes people are safest when responsibilities are explicit and every duty has someone willing to bear it.
Bonds
Zabok is sworn to locate every surviving member of their former squad and learn the truth about the order that destroyed their unit. They also protect their polished brass insignia, the last object entrusted to them by their commanding officer.
Flaws
Zabok obeys clear instructions too readily, especially when they are delivered in an authoritative tone. They distrust improvisation, conceal uncertainty behind formal reports, and may continue pursuing an obsolete objective long after everyone else recognizes that the mission has changed.
Quirks
Background
Zabok was assembled for a war that ended before they had learned what victory was supposed to feel like. Their earliest memories are of marching orders, supply ledgers, and officers arguing over maps while Zabok carried messages through smoke. They became a reliable battlefield courier and later a squad standard-bearer, not because they were inspirational, but because they never dropped the banner, never forgot an order, and never abandoned a wounded comrade. When the war ended, their unit dissolved into scattered veterans, unpaid debts, and conflicting stories about who had truly been responsible for the final massacre. Without a regiment to command them, Zabok discovered a strange emptiness beneath their discipline. During a night spent guarding an abandoned fort, they answered a voice coming from the dark between the stars. The entity offered power in exchange for service, but its instructions were maddeningly incomplete. Zabok accepted because the arrangement resembled the only kind of relationship they understood, a chain of duty with clearly defined obligations. Now they travel as a warlock and veteran, seeking the missing records of their former unit while trying to determine whether their patron's commands are lawful orders, subtle manipulation, or an opportunity to become something other than a weapon awaiting deployment.
