Appearance
Veyra stands slightly taller than most humans, with ash-blonde hair cut bluntly at the jaw and narrow gray-green eyes that rarely remain still. Her fingers are long and strong from years of precise work, the nails stained with ink, powdered silver, and alchemical residue. Fine calluses cover her fingertips, and she habitually checks the clasp of her spellbook whenever someone speaks too close to her. She dresses in dark blue court robes beneath a fitted traveling coat, wearing a tarnished signet ring on a chain around her neck rather than on her hand.
Mannerisms
Veyra speaks softly and precisely, often pausing before a cruel statement as though checking its grammar. She touches the clasp of her spellbook whenever she feels watched, and she turns her signet ring inward before making a threat.
Personality
Veyra is controlled, observant, and unfailingly articulate. She enjoys dissecting motives, social hierarchies, and magical phenomena with the same detached curiosity. She can be charming when useful, but her courtesy feels like a blade laid flat against the table. She has little patience for emotional displays unless she can learn something from them.
Ideals
Freedom is the right to impose one's will without apology. Laws exist for people who lack the imagination to escape them.
Bonds
Her family's sealed archive contains the original records of several noble crimes, and Veyra will destroy cities rather than let those secrets fall into another person's hands.
Flaws
She treats kindness as either manipulation or incompetence, and when forced to choose between mercy and advantage, she usually resents the person who made the choice necessary.
Quirks
Background
Veyra Klasten was born into an old elven house whose wealth came from controlling river tolls, lending coin, and quietly buying the loyalty of judges. Her family expected her to become a polished political instrument, but she preferred the household library, where she found that spells obeyed principles more reliably than people did. Her tutors praised her memory while avoiding her questions, especially those concerning why certain books were chained shut and why servants who displeased the family sometimes vanished from the estate records. At sixteen, Veyra discovered that her elder brother had arranged the ruin of a rival house through forged evidence and an enchantment placed on a magistrate. Rather than expose him, she studied the method, improved it, and used it to remove the relatives who stood between her and inheritance. The scandal forced her into exile before she could claim the title, but she left with her family's spellbooks, signet, and a list of names still useful to her. Now she travels as a learned noblewoman and evocation specialist, selling magical force to whoever can pay while cultivating the power to return home as something far worse than an heir.
