Appearance
Neris is a slim half-elf woman with warm brown skin, soft hazel eyes flecked with gold, and dark chestnut hair worn in a loose braid threaded with pale cord. Her elven features are subtle, softened by her human heritage. A faint white scar crosses her left palm, the mark left by the stone shrine when she first touched its sealed altar. She dresses in layered woodland-gray robes beneath a patched charcoal-burner's cloak, carrying a weathered spellbook bound in birch bark and stitched with green thread.
Mannerisms
Neris pauses before answering ordinary questions, as if listening for a second voice beneath them. She turns her head toward empty doorways when thinking and traces small circles in ash or spilled flour while explaining an idea.
Personality
Neris is gentle, observant, and unexpectedly stubborn. She speaks softly enough that people often lean closer, then surprises them with precise questions and inconveniently accurate conclusions. She is fascinated by small systems, bird calls, knot patterns, smoke behavior, and the way frightened people lie. Though slow to trust institutions, she is deeply protective of individuals who have been overlooked or dismissed.
Ideals
Understanding. The world is full of signs, but signs are useless without the patience and courage to interpret them honestly.
Bonds
The hidden shrine of the Veiled Concord is her true home, and she will risk anything to keep its location secret. She also carries her father's blackened iron knife, the only possession she recovered after returning to the logging settlement.
Flaws
Neris treats coincidence as a warning and certainty as a temptation. She can become paralyzed by the fear that choosing freely might interfere with a vision she has not yet understood. When frightened, she withholds crucial information rather than risk causing a predicted disaster.

Background
Neris Vey was born in a small logging settlement at the edge of the Greydell Forest, the daughter of a human charcoal burner and an elven peddler who never stayed long in one place. Her childhood was shaped by smoke, sap, and the constant knowledge that the forest began only a few steps beyond the last rough fence. Her mother taught her fragments of Elvish songs and roadside remedies, while her father taught her to read weather in the trees and judge a safe fire by its color. Neris learned early that both craft and superstition were forms of attention. At thirteen, she followed a white stag beyond the familiar trails and vanished into the woods. She expected to die of cold, but instead found a hidden stone shrine where the Veiled Concord, a circle of divine sorcerer-saints, had gathered in secret. They told her that the forest had not claimed her. It had delivered her to them. The Concord did not make her a sorcerer, but one of their elder members recognized her gift for seeing patterns in chance, flame, and falling leaves. They taught her wizardry as a sacred discipline, insisting that knowledge was not separate from faith, but one of its most demanding forms. After years of study and solitude, Neris left the shrine with a spellbook, a sealed warning, and a troubling vision of axe blows echoing beneath the Greydell roots. She now travels to learn who is threatening the forest and why the white stag has begun appearing in her dreams again.
