Appearance
A lean, weather-hardened human man with warm brown skin, thick dark hair tied loosely at the nape, and a short beard threaded with a few silver hairs. His green-brown eyes are steady and observant. He wears well-kept leather armor beneath a moss-colored cloak, carries a wooden shield marked with a simple spiral of growth, and keeps a small iron fire pot hanging from his belt. He has a quiet, rounded voice and tends to stand slightly apart from groups, as though leaving room for unseen roots and passing animals. When calm, his breathing is slow and almost inaudible. When rattled, he draws breath through his nose in three deliberate pulls before speaking.
Mannerisms
He pauses before answering difficult questions and watches nearby flames, leaves, or drifting dust while thinking. When entering a new place, he quietly notes where water would collect and where fire would spread. If upset, he takes three slow breaths through his nose before speaking in an even softer voice.
Personality
Quietly attentive and patient, Tavian notices small changes in weather, posture, and living things before he notices conversation. He is gentle with frightened animals and blunt with people who mistake destruction for progress. He dislikes waste, loud boasting, and needless urgency, but he is not timid. Once he decides that something must be protected, he becomes remarkably difficult to move.
Ideals
Renewal. Nothing in nature is wasted. The fallen nourish the living, the burned ground shelters new growth, and a wise person must make room for what comes next.
Bonds
The recovering forest around his former hermitage is his responsibility. He will protect its people, seedlings, and creatures even when doing so costs him comfort, reputation, or safety.
Flaws
He treats human urgency as a passing weather pattern and can seem cold when others need immediate reassurance. He also hides important truths too long, convinced that secrecy is protection, even when trust would serve him better.

Background
Tavian Llewelyn was raised in a small forest settlement where every household kept a hearth, and every child learned that fire was neither friend nor enemy. His mother taught him to bank coals beneath ash so they could warm the sick through the night. His father taught him to burn fallen brush before it became a crown fire, and to scatter seeds through the blackened soil afterward. From them, Tavian learned the lesson that shaped his life, death does not end the work of nature. It feeds the next beginning. In his early twenties, Tavian withdrew into an old charcoal-burner's hut after a season of terrible fires. There, alone among the recovering groves, he studied tracks, medicinal plants, weather signs, and the patient language of regrowth. During those years he discovered that the fires had not all been natural. Someone had been clearing ancient woodland to expose a buried vein of pale crystal that seemed to pulse beneath the roots. Tavian has kept the location secret, fearing that greed will bring axes, soldiers, and uncontrolled flame. Now he travels beyond his hermitage to learn who seeks the crystal and whether the forest can survive another deliberate burning.
