Appearance
Farley is a lean half-elf woman with striking white hair worn in a short, carefully maintained cut and bright green eyes. Her build is wiry rather than imposing, shaped by marching, climbing, and years of practical military drills. She wears well-fitted leather armor beneath a weathered military coat, with a short sword at her hip, a dagger tucked into her belt, and a short bow and quiver across her back. She smells faintly of bowstring wax, pine soap, and oiled leather. Her gear is plainly maintained with almost fussy care, even when her clothing is dusty from travel.
Mannerisms
Farley checks the tension of her bowstring whenever she enters an unfamiliar room. She keeps her back near a wall, counts exits under her breath, and cleans her blade during difficult conversations. When irritated, she smooths one short lock of white hair behind her ear and becomes unnervingly polite.
Personality
Farley is observant, restrained, and quietly compassionate. She speaks with the clipped clarity of a soldier giving a field report, but she notices small discomforts that others overlook and fixes them without asking for praise. She distrusts grand speeches, prefers practical plans, and becomes unexpectedly gentle around frightened civilians, children, and inexperienced recruits.
Ideals
Responsibility. Power exists to protect people who cannot protect themselves. Anyone who forgets that has surrendered the right to command.
Bonds
The soldiers and refugees she saved are her true unit. She will risk herself to protect anyone abandoned by a commander, noble, or institution.
Flaws
Farley has difficulty obeying orders from anyone who has not earned her respect. She is also quick to assume that every institution is hiding a betrayal, which can make honest allies feel accused and can turn caution into needless suspicion.
Quirks
Background
Farley was raised between two worlds, never quite belonging to either. Her elven mother taught her to read weather, watch people carefully, and keep her white hair immaculate as a point of pride. Her human father served in a border regiment and taught her the practical virtues of clean weapons, quiet feet, and never wasting a life when another solution would do. Farley enlisted young, partly to prove that a half-elf with a slight frame could stand in the same line as anyone else, and partly because the regiment offered the closest thing she had ever known to a permanent family. She became a scout and courier, carrying orders through difficult terrain and slipping behind enemy lines to observe movements that larger patrols could not detect. During one disastrous campaign, Farley discovered that her officers had knowingly abandoned a village to protect a valuable supply route. She disobeyed orders, led civilians through a wooded ravine, and returned too late to prevent the regiment from taking the blame for the failure. Though several soldiers survived because of her actions, Farley lost her rank and left the army rather than accept a quiet promotion built on silence. Now she works as a sellsword, guide, and occasional investigator, using the skills of a rogue to protect ordinary people from the powerful figures who once treated them as expendable pieces on a map.
