Appearance
Shame of Daedalus is a broad-shouldered warforged built for heavy infantry, standing just over six feet tall. His dark iron frame is patched with mismatched bronze plates, each repair carefully riveted rather than concealed. A faded unit number is stamped into his left collar, while a strip of blue campaign cloth is tied around his right wrist. His pale, glass-like eyes do not wander while people speak. Instead, they track exits, hands, weapons, and changes in posture, often completing a silent survey before he answers. His voice begins with a soft mechanical intake, followed by precise, evenly spaced words.
Mannerisms
Before answering, SOD performs a quiet mechanical intake and turns his entire head toward the speaker. He counts doorways and visible weapons whenever he enters a room, then positions himself where he can see both the most vulnerable person and the nearest exit.
Personality
SOD is formal, observant, and intensely dependable. He speaks to nobles, mercenaries, and children with the same deliberate courtesy, but his emotional reactions often arrive several seconds late. He has a dry, unintentional sense of humor and treats every promise as a logistical commitment rather than a social expression.
Ideals
Duty. A command is not sacred because it is spoken by an officer. True duty means protecting those placed under your authority, even when obedience would be easier.
Bonds
I carry the names of the soldiers who died under Daedalus's command, and I will recover the original battle record that proves what truly happened.
Flaws
I obey clear orders too quickly, especially when hesitation might endanger others. When someone challenges my judgment, I become cold, literal, and determined to prove that my interpretation was correct.
Quirks
Background
Shame of Daedalus was assembled beneath a fortress foundry during the final years of a long and expensive war. His makers intended him to be a perfect infantry officer, a tireless commander who could calculate formations without fear, fatigue, or divided loyalty. His first deployment ended in disaster. Daedalus, the artificer who designed his command protocols, ordered a retreat that would have saved an entire company, but a superior officer countermanded it. The company was destroyed, and the official report blamed Daedalus for disobedience. The machine was thereafter marked with the designation SOD, short for Shame of Daedalus, a title meant to preserve the army's version of the truth. SOD remembers every name from that company, though he rarely speaks them aloud. After the war, he served as a guard, caravan escort, and battlefield salvager, following orders because orders were easier to trust than people. Over time, he began separating lawful command from rightful command. Now he travels as a soldier without a country, seeking evidence that will clear his creator's name and testing whether loyalty can exist without surrendering judgment. He protects civilians with the same absolute focus once reserved for officers, even when doing so makes him a liability to those in command.
