Appearance
Bethany is remarkably small for a dwarf, looking barely ten years old. Her skin has the deep, furrowed texture and brownish hue of maple bark, while her hair grows in short, overlapping blue and green tufts that resemble feathers. Her eyes are large, almond shaped, and a vibrant forest green. She has powerful, muscular arms developed from years of labor, though her legs are thin and weak. She typically wears simple, pastel colored t-shirts and skirts, often with a large backpack for her monkey companion.
Mannerisms
She speaks with a melodic but very slow cadence, often pausing to find the right word. She uses her muscular arms to haul herself up when her legs fail her.
Personality
Despite the severe physical trials she has faced, Bethany is a radiant beam of cheerfulness and warmth. She is incredibly patient, perhaps as a result of her own slow speech and the long year she spent in a coma. She is deeply empathetic toward animals and plants, treating her leshies as if they were her own children. She accepts her clumsiness with a self-deprecating giggle, never letting a fall dampen her spirits.
Ideals
Growth. Every living thing deserves the chance to recover and bloom, no matter how much they have been broken by life.
Bonds
My life belongs to my mother's Maple tree and the forest that shielded my soul while I slept.
Flaws
I am physically dependent on others for many tasks, and my occasional accidents make me prone to embarrassment in crowded cities.
Quirks
Background
Born to a dwarf woodcutter named Ash and a powerful Dryad of the Great Maple, Bethany's life was a blend of stone and leaf. Her birth was complicated by Turner syndrome, leaving her smaller and frailer than her kin, but she found strength in the forest. When she was fifteen, a necrotic blight swept through the grove. Bethany tried to heal the trees but the sickness took her instead, plunging her into a coma for over a year. While her body lay dormant, her spirit drifted through the fey-wild roots of her mother's tree. When she finally woke, the blight was gone, but it left her with severe nerve damage in her legs and a mind that needed to relearn the simplest of tasks, including speech and basic self-care. She lives now in a magnificent eco-house built into her mother's ancient maple, where she spends her days raising leshies and practicing her wood-magic with the help of Pip, her golden capuchin support animal. She travels occasionally to find new seeds or to help other forests struggling with the same sickness that nearly took her life.
