Appearance
Sheshan is a slender warforged with dark lacquered wood, brushed brass joints, and narrow plates of smoke-gray steel. Fine geometric etchings run across the brow and throat, resembling a mixture of workshop notation and old Caucasian knotwork. A faded blue-gray hermit's cloak hangs from one shoulder, its hem stitched with small protective symbols. Before speaking, Sheshan gives a soft mechanical intake, pauses as though listening to an absent second voice, and then answers in a careful, breathy register. In any room, their gaze moves first to doorways, windows, and unattended writing surfaces rather than to faces.
Mannerisms
Sheshan pauses for one measured breath before answering difficult questions. They turn their head toward written words even when someone else is speaking, tap the edge of their spellbook three times before casting, and quietly repeat unfamiliar names until the syllables feel balanced.
Personality
Sheshan is observant, dryly amused, and socially unpredictable. They can be charming when curiosity is rewarded, but become distant when conversation turns sentimental or imprecise. They ask direct questions without realizing how invasive they sound, then offer strangely tender practical assistance, such as repairing a buckle or reorganizing someone's notes. Their chaotic nature appears in sudden changes of plan, while their hermit habits make them happiest in silence, archives, abandoned towers, and rooms with a clear view of the exits.
Ideals
Knowledge should remain free. No tyrant, priest, monarch, or machine has the right to lock away a truth merely because it is dangerous.
Bonds
The sealed brass cylinder is the closest thing Sheshan has to a birth certificate. They will protect it, decipher it, and eventually find the person or institution that tried to erase its contents.
Flaws
Sheshan treats uncertainty as a personal insult and may risk lives to obtain one more piece of evidence. They are also too willing to manipulate people with carefully selected truths, especially when they believe the full truth would slow them down.
Quirks
Background
Sheshan was assembled in a quiet workshop at the edge of a ruined observatory, long after the great war had ended. Their original maker left behind no name, only a sealed brass cylinder containing fragments of astronomical tables, half a prayer in an unfamiliar dialect, and a command to preserve knowledge that powerful people preferred forgotten. Sheshan spent their first years cataloguing the observatory's debris, learning to read from damaged spellbooks, and listening to wind move through the empty dome. The work gradually became an obsession, and the first spell they cast was an imperfect light that revealed hidden writing beneath the observatory floor.
