Appearance
Stella is a slight, pale-gold-skinned aasimar with luminous silver eyes, dark auburn hair worn in a braided crown, and an expressive face that rarely stays solemn for long. She wears carefully maintained chain mail beneath a blue velvet surcoat bearing her family's faded crest, with a polished shield and longsword that look more ceremonial than practical until drawn. When waiting, she balances on the balls of her feet and shifts her weight from side to side as though listening for music no one else can hear. Her hands are small and deft, but the fingers are roughened from years of polishing armor, restringing instruments, and practicing sword forms in cramped palace courtyards. A faint halo-like shimmer appears around her hair whenever she is angry or delighted.
Mannerisms
Stella tilts her head before answering difficult questions, as if consulting an invisible choir. She taps the rim of her shield when impatient, adjusts other people's crooked collars without asking, and gives an exaggerated formal bow whenever someone uses her title sarcastically.
Personality
Stella is irreverent, curious, and socially fearless. She treats peasants, soldiers, priests, and monarchs as equally worthy of conversation, though she is especially fond of people who refuse to be impressed by her. She is generous with food, quick with a theatrical joke, and intensely protective of anyone being bullied by authority. Beneath her carefree manner is a sharp moral instinct and a persistent fear that her celestial heritage is only another form of inherited privilege.
Ideals
Freedom. No law deserves obedience merely because it is old, sacred, or written by someone powerful. Justice must remain answerable to the living people it claims to protect.
Bonds
The hungry villagers who survived because of her actions are Stella's true family. She will risk herself to protect them and hopes one day to build a refuge where no noble can turn food into leverage.
Flaws
Stella mistakes defiance for courage and becomes recklessly argumentative when anyone invokes tradition, rank, or divine authority. She is also vain about her family name, pretending to despise noble privilege while secretly enjoying the attention and access it provides.
Quirks
Background
Stella was born into a noble household whose reputation rested on ancient celestial ancestry and carefully preserved manners. Her family treated her aasimar nature as both blessing and political ornament, expecting her to become a graceful ambassador who could smile through any insult. Stella instead became fascinated by the household chaplain's stories of sacred oaths, especially the parts where righteous heroes disobeyed unjust commands. She trained with the palace guard, though she was a poor athlete and an even worse dancer, compensating with persistence, quick improvisation, and a willingness to turn every formal lesson into an argument about what justice should actually mean. When a famine struck the outer villages, Stella discovered that her relatives were withholding grain to protect their estates and bargaining power. She broke protocol, opened the family storehouses, and publicly blamed the council during a feast. The act saved lives but made her unwelcome at home. Rather than submit to a quiet exile, she took up the sword and shield of a traveling paladin, vowing to follow the spirit of justice even when laws, institutions, and celestial expectations point elsewhere. She still carries her family's signet ring, partly as a reminder of what she rejected and partly because she enjoys the doors it can open.
