Appearance
SerJaun is a small, strikingly handsome forest gnome with weathered olive skin, vivid green eyes, and thick dark hair threaded with silver. His face and hands are marked by pale scars from the civil war, including a long slash across his left cheek. He dresses in a worn military coat altered into a performer’s cloak, polished leather armor, and bright scarves faded by years of travel. A finely maintained lute hangs at his side, while a piccolo rests in a case beneath his belt.
Mannerisms
SerJaun often taps out marching rhythms with his fingers when anxious. He tilts his head and smiles before answering difficult questions, as though composing a lyric. When someone mentions the civil war, he absentmindedly touches the scar on his cheek and begins polishing his lute strings.
Personality
SerJaun is charming, playful, and quick with a bawdy joke, especially when a room grows too tense. He performs confidence like a stage role, filling silence with music and turning danger into an invitation to dance. Beneath the flirtation is a profoundly lonely veteran who listens carefully to other people’s grief because he recognizes it as the only language he still speaks fluently.
Ideals
Freedom. No army, monarch, rebel, or lover has the right to own another person’s loyalty. People must be free to choose, even when their choices cause pain.
Bonds
He carries a broken clasp from his first love’s clothing and is determined to preserve the truth of the uprising through his songs. He also feels an uneasy obligation toward deserters, camp followers, and war refugees, especially those abandoned by victorious armies.
Flaws
SerJaun assumes that anyone who loves him will eventually betray him. He uses charm, flirtation, and melancholy theatrics to keep people fascinated but emotionally distant. When confronted with genuine happiness, he sometimes sabotages it because sorrow feels more honest and familiar.

Background
SerJaun was a joyous and musical child, raised among forest gnomes who believed every sorrow could be given a shape and every shape could become a song. He learned the lute from his mother and the piccolo from an uncle who performed at village festivals. His bright spirit made him beloved by his family and admired by strangers, and for a time he believed his life would be filled with music, mischief, and romance. That hope ended during a rebel uprising. His first love died in the fighting, and the violence claimed the rest of his family as well, leaving SerJaun alive by accident and hollowed by grief. Still young, SerJaun joined the losing army in the civil war, serving as a scout, courier, and camp musician. His small size and quick hands made him useful, while his songs kept frightened soldiers from breaking. Near the war’s end, he fell in love with a camp follower who secretly changed sides as SerJaun’s army was defeated. Whether the betrayal was born of fear, conviction, or simple survival, SerJaun has never decided. He escaped with scars, a stolen set of thieves’ tools, and a collection of haunting songs that carry the voices of the dead. Now he travels from town to town as a bard, playing the lute and piccolo in taverns, noble halls, and shadowed alleys. Men and women often swoon over his beauty and melancholy charm, but SerJaun rarely lets anyone close enough to discover how empty he feels inside.
