Appearance
A compact forest gnome with weathered green eyes, braided copper beard beads, and a mass of dark hair tied back with sinew cord. He is wiry rather than bulky, with bark-brown war paint across his cheeks, a chipped greataxe slung over one shoulder, and a travel-worn cloak stitched with feathers, teeth, and lucky knots. His grin is feral and delighted, as if every challenge is the start of a wonderful story.
Mannerisms
He speaks to trees as though they are old neighbors, cracks his knuckles before making a point, and barks a laugh whenever danger looks especially large. When thinking, he rubs the edge of his antler charm with his thumb, and when angry he goes very still before exploding into motion.
Personality
Brindle is exuberant, stubborn, and fiercely protective, with the cheerful intensity of a storm lantern in the dark. He loves wide-open roads, muddy boots, and the sound of honest work. He can be surprisingly gentle with beasts and children, but he has no tolerance for bullies, grave-robbing, or anyone who tries to turn the natural world into property.
Ideals
Freedom. No sapient creature should be caged by tyrants, and no forest should bow to greedy hands. Strength is only honorable when it protects what cannot defend itself.
Bonds
The old oak-burrow of his birth still shelters his kin, and he will cross any wilderness to keep it safe. He also carries a knot of antler from the first beast he ever hunted alone, a reminder that he owes his strength to the wild places that raised him.
Flaws
He mistakes urgency for wisdom and will charge ahead when a calmer plan would help. He also takes insults to the wild personally, sometimes escalating a harmless disagreement into a one-gnome war. When frightened, he covers it with jokes and noise until he is too angry to admit he was scared at all.
Quirks
Background
Brindle Tumblethumb was born in a burrow carved beneath an ancient oak at the edge of a wild forest, where the paths of druids, hunters, and foolish trespassers all crossed in equal measure. He was never the sort of gnome who wanted a tidy workshop or a quiet archive. While other children cataloged mushrooms and polished lanterns, Brindle climbed roots, wrestled boar, and laughed at the thunder rolling over the hills. His curiosity was huge, his patience was tiny, and when the forest was threatened by poachers he discovered that fear made a very poor companion compared to fury. The first time he seized an axe twice his size and drove the raiders back, something awake and ancient roared in his chest, and it has never fully slept since. Since then, Brindle has wandered as an outlander, living by track, instinct, and the stubborn conviction that the wild should be defended loudly and with splinters. He fights like a storm in a small body, a blur of teeth, fists, and improvised violence, and his deliberate choice to keep traveling is partly duty, partly restlessness. He has a knack for reading the land, the weather, and the mood of beasts, but almost no patience for courtly nonsense or anyone who mistakes his size for softness. He carries stories from every frontier camp and hunter's trail, and he tells them with the breathless enthusiasm of someone who believes survival is a kind of sacred mischief.
