Appearance
Rivenna is a slender, pale-skinned elf with long black hair streaked by silver and sharp violet-gray eyes that seem to reflect candlelight even in darkness. Delicate fangs show when she smiles, and faint shadows cling beneath her eyes. She wears a well-tailored but weathered noble coat over light leather armor, favoring dark burgundy, charcoal, and midnight blue. A signet ring from her fallen house hangs on a chain around her neck, while a rapier rests at her hip and a shortbow is kept within easy reach.
Mannerisms
Rivenna speaks with the careful diction of a courtier, even while picking a lock or threatening an enemy. She tilts her head when listening to unseen spirits, pauses before entering rooms as if waiting for permission from the dead, and keeps one hand near her signet ring whenever she is frightened.
Personality
Rivenna is observant, sardonic, and unexpectedly compassionate toward outcasts, servants, and the dead. She retains the graceful manners of a noble upbringing, but uses them as a mask while she studies everyone in the room. She dislikes being touched without warning and becomes quietly intense whenever someone mentions missing persons, abandoned estates, or unexplained deaths.
Ideals
Freedom. No bloodline, title, church, or ancient curse has the right to decide what a person becomes. The dead may speak, but the living must choose.
Bonds
The signet ring of her fallen house is the last proof that her family ever stood for anything. Rivenna will uncover what happened to her father, even if the truth condemns her entire bloodline.
Flaws
Rivenna assumes every kindness conceals a bargain, and she often reacts to sincere affection with suspicion or coldness. The hunger awakened by the vampire's bite is usually manageable, but fear, blood, and the presence of undead can make her judgment dangerously impulsive.
Quirks
Background
Rivenna was born into an old elven house in Faerun, a family whose wealth and influence had begun to rot long before its banners were pulled down. Her father vanished when she was a child, leaving behind no body, no farewell, and only a locked study filled with records written in languages she could not read. After his disappearance, strange changes began to surface in Rivenna. She could hear whispers in empty rooms, sense heartbeats through walls, and occasionally wake from dreams with knowledge of deaths that had occurred centuries before. Her family dismissed these incidents as illness, grief, or an embarrassing eccentricity unworthy of a noble daughter. Years later, while traveling under an assumed name, Rivenna was attacked by a vampire who recognized the darkness in her blood. The creature expected to claim her as a victim, but its bite instead awakened the dormant power within her. Rivenna survived as something neither wholly living nor fully undead, a dhampir whose senses opened to the restless dead. The attack also exposed the truth her father had hidden, that her bloodline had long been touched by vampiric ancestry. Branded a monster by the same nobles who once courted her favor, Rivenna abandoned her family estate and became a thief, infiltrator, and reluctant investigator of haunted places. She now follows the whispers of the dead, searching for her missing father and the secret that destroyed her house. Though she has not yet mastered the mysteries of the Phantom tradition, every spirit she encounters teaches her another way to strike from the shadows.
