Appearance

Panniz is a lean wood elf woman with copper-brown skin, long black hair threaded with dried grasses, and bright amber eyes that seem constantly alert. A thin scar crosses her left eyebrow, and small green tattoos resembling climbing vines wind around her wrists. She wears weathered scale mail beneath a moss-colored cloak, with a longbow and twin shortswords kept within easy reach. Her clothing is patched, practical, and faintly scented with pine resin and medicinal herbs.

Mannerisms

Panniz pauses before answering as if listening to something far away. She frequently touches nearby bark, stone, or soil while thinking, and she speaks to animals in a low conversational tone even when they cannot understand her.

Personality

Panniz is observant, independent, and difficult to surprise. She prefers the company of animals, travelers, and outsiders to formal society, and she has a dry sense of humor that appears at unexpected moments. She is compassionate toward the wounded and suspicious of the comfortable.

Ideals

Freedom. The wild cannot be owned, catalogued, or ruled by distant voices. Every living thing deserves the chance to follow its own path.

Bonds

The dying elder tree and the hidden shrine are part of a mystery Panniz cannot abandon. She will risk almost anything to protect the forest that raised her and uncover the truth behind its sickness.

Flaws

Panniz distrusts authority and assumes that anyone demanding patience is probably hiding something. She is quick to abandon a plan if a more interesting mystery appears, and she sometimes mistakes reckless curiosity for courage.

Quirks

Names every campfire and refuses to extinguish one without saying goodbye.
Keeps dried leaves from places where she has survived danger.
Collects unusual seeds, even when they are clearly poisonous.
Whistles softly whenever she senses that someone is lying.

Background

Panniz was born beneath the high boughs of an old elven woodland, but she never felt entirely at home among her kin. While other elves learned courtly songs and ancestral histories, Panniz was drawn to animal tracks, weather patterns, and the quiet language of wounded plants. She became a capable hunter and guide, yet her restless nature often led her beyond the safe paths marked by her elders. During a solitary expedition, Panniz discovered a sealed stone shrine beneath the roots of a dying elder tree. Inside, she found a blackened seed, a fragment of ancient writing, and evidence that the forest's sickness was not natural. The discovery frightened the elders, who urged silence until they could determine whether the knowledge was dangerous. Panniz refused to wait. She withdrew to a remote hermitage, where she studied herbs, treated injured animals, and observed the blight's slow advance. Now she has left her refuge to seek the source of the corruption, following instinct rather than permission, and trusting that the wild will reveal what civilization conceals.
