Appearance
Pippo is a broad-shouldered dwarf with a neatly braided beard, iron-gray at the temples and bound with a tiny brass ring stamped with a temple sigil. He wears polished chain mail over a plain pilgrim’s robe, and the edge of his shield is nicked from years of dutiful service. His calligrapher’s ink stains never quite leave his fingers, and his holy symbol hangs beside a prayer book that is far more worn than any weapon he owns.
Mannerisms
He taps his thumb against the rim of his shield when thinking, as if counting psalms in silence. Before entering a room he gives a tiny bow to any visible shrine, hearth, or ancestor carving, and when nervous he recites blessings under his breath while straightening every nearby object.
Personality
Soft-spoken, solemn, and unexpectedly patient, Pippo treats every task as if it were part of a sacred rite. He is kind without being sentimental, stern without being cruel, and quietly delighted by orderly shelves, clean margins, and honest workmanship. In battle he becomes a calm little bastion, speaking short prayers before each strike as though every blow is a line in a holy manuscript.
Ideals
Duty. A vow is not a mood, it is a bridge. The weak deserve guardians who keep their promises even when no one is watching.
Bonds
He keeps the prayer book of his first temple wrapped in oilcloth, and he will cross any distance to protect the people who sheltered him there. He also feels bound to every child, novice, or outcast who has ever been told they were too weak to serve.
Flaws
Pippo mistakes silence for disapproval and will overexplain himself until a simple matter becomes a sermon. He is also painfully literal, which makes him slow to notice deception unless it is wrapped in blasphemy or open cruelty.
Quirks
Background
Pippo was raised in a dwarf hall where the forge bell and the chapel bell rang with equal authority. Too small to swing an anvil hammer as well as his kin and too stubborn to be left behind, he found his place in the temple scriptoria, copying prayers, illuminating vow-books, and learning the old names of saints, martyrs, and mountain guardians. He came to love the discipline of liturgy, the measured cadence of vows, and the quiet comfort of being useful in ways that did not always draw applause. When raiders came for the shrine that had sheltered his people through a winter famine, Pippo was the one who stood in the doorway with a borrowed longsword and a borrowed courage. He did not win by force of personality, because he has none to speak of, but by refusing to step aside. In that moment the temple priest recognized the shape of a deeper calling, and Pippo swore an oath to defend the faithful, the helpless, and the stubborn little places the world tries to crush. He now travels as a paladin of devotion, carrying temple lessons in one hand and divine steel in the other, hoping his small life can still be a wall against darkness.
