Appearance
Venna Ketola is a human woman of wiry build and unsettling stillness. Chaotic tattoos coil over her arms, throat, ribs, and hands, forming patterns that seem almost deliberate when viewed from the corner of the eye. Her dark hair is cropped close, with shaved sides and a stark silver streak at her temple. She wears modern, battered clothing, including a torn leather jacket, heavy boots, layered shirts, and fingerless gloves. She carries herself like someone who has already found the exit. Her expression is usually amused, watchful, and one bad idea away from delight.
Mannerisms
Venna leans against doorframes instead of standing normally, tilts her head when listening as though hearing a second conversation, and taps her fingers in prime-numbered rhythms. She often answers questions with a smile before deciding whether the answer should be true.
Personality
Venna is intense, invasive, and disturbingly observant. She notices every exit, weakness, hesitation, and repeated phrase in a room. She can be magnetic when she chooses, but her charm has the unstable edge of a knife being spun on a tabletop. She becomes fascinated with people who resist her manipulations and may pursue them for weeks simply to understand what makes them difficult to fool.
Ideals
Freedom is the right to become anyone, at any moment. No authority, name, law, or history has the power to define a person permanently.
Bonds
She is determined to find the illusionist whose spellbook she stole, not to apologize, but to prove that she surpassed the original author. She also protects her mother's old street troupe from anyone who tries to exploit them.
Flaws
Venna cannot leave a lie alone once she has told it. She must elaborate, improve, and defend it even when silence would be safer. She is also convinced that certain reflections are independent versions of herself, and she sometimes argues with them in public.
Quirks
Background
Venna Ketola grew up in a crowded human city where names were currency and appearances were survival. Her mother worked as a street performer, her father vanished into a debtor's prison, and Venna learned early that a convincing smile could open more doors than a good lockpick. She began with small cons, posing as a courier, a runaway noble, a grieving widow's niece, and once, disastrously, a minor official from a district that did not exist. Her talent for disguise became inseparable from her talent for theft, and she discovered that people rarely notice what is missing while they are busy admiring what they think they see. Her descent into arcane trickery began when she stole a battered spellbook from a disgraced illusionist. The book contained incomplete notes on magical misdirection, but Venna treated the gaps as invitations. She taught herself to shape false images, whisper through locked doors, and call a strange familiar that resembles a pale, sharp-eyed magpie. The tattoos came later, inked during an obsessive attempt to map every alias she had ever used across her skin. Venna now believes each identity is still alive somewhere inside her, offering advice, threats, and occasional contradictory instructions. She is an unhinged but highly capable Arcane Trickster who treats reality as a confidence game that has not yet realized it is being cheated.
