Appearance
Carsys is a lean human woman with wind-tangled dark auburn hair, warm brown skin, and alert gray-green eyes that constantly measure distances, materials, and escape routes. She wears a slightly oversized suit of scale mail beneath a patched blue-gray coat, whose sleeves are reinforced with mismatched leather and brass stitching. Her boots are practical but poorly fitted, and she keeps one immaculate pair of jeweler's spectacles in a padded case at her belt. She smells faintly of ozone, hot metal, and lavender oil, though she insists the lavender is the important part.
Mannerisms
Carsys taps her thumbnail against metal surfaces while thinking, listens to machines as if they are speaking, and frequently turns her head toward empty air when recalling the sound of astral currents. When excited, she begins explaining a repair in precise technical terms before realizing nobody asked.
Personality
Carsys is quick-minded, warm-hearted, and incapable of leaving a broken mechanism alone. She speaks to tools with the patience other people reserve for frightened animals and treats strangers as potential friends until they demonstrate otherwise. Her curiosity is fearless, sometimes to the point of danger, and she becomes intensely focused whenever she encounters unfamiliar magic or technology.
Ideals
Freedom. No person, guild, monarch, or machine should own another person's future. Knowledge is meant to open doors, not lock them.
Bonds
The damaged navigation core from her crashed ship is the one possession she will never surrender. She believes it contains a message from the vessel's original destination, or proof that someone deliberately caused the crash.
Flaws
Carsys assumes every disaster has a hidden designer, and she can become reckless when trying to prove a theory. She also has difficulty accepting help, because part of her still believes that trusting the wrong person is what doomed her ship.
Quirks
Background
Carsys Lanshodere was born somewhere beyond the familiar sky, aboard a small vessel that crossed the Astral Sea carrying tools, trade goods, and a handful of passengers who believed every destination could be reached with enough patience and proper maintenance. She remembers the ship more clearly than she remembers any planet: the soft pressure of astral currents, the chime of navigation crystals, and the voice of the vessel's mechanic teaching her that every broken thing leaves clues about how it wants to be repaired. The ship fell through an impossible silver storm and came down in an unknown world. Carsys was the only survivor. She emerged from the wreckage with a toolbox, a half-burned navigation core, and a stubborn certainty that the crash was not an accident. A local guild took her in after she repaired a shattered loom mechanism in exchange for supper. She became a guild artisan, learning the customs of this world while adapting her astral techniques to ordinary metals, gears, and magical components. Now she travels as an artificer, helping people who cannot afford elegant solutions and searching for evidence of her lost ship, her missing home, and the force that brought her here.
