Appearance
Malice is a lean, severe Drow woman with obsidian skin, white hair cut to her jaw, and eyes like polished garnets. A thin scar crosses her lower lip, self-inflicted as part of an old devotional rite. She wears fitted leather armor beneath layered crimson, violet, and black robes patterned after spider legs and webbing. Her scimitars hang at opposite hips, their grips wrapped in red silk and black cord. Small vials, needles, and concealed blades are sewn into nearly every fold of her clothing.
Mannerisms
Malice bows before speaking to anyone she considers spiritually significant, but the bow is always slightly too deep and lasts slightly too long. She touches the scar on her lip whenever someone mentions honor. Before a fight, she silently counts backward from eight, then smiles only if the count is interrupted.
Personality
Malice is quiet, ceremonious, and unnervingly attentive. She listens as if every conversation were a confession and studies people's hands more than their faces. She prefers formal courtesy because it makes betrayal more shocking. Though she speaks of herself as Lolth's instrument, she possesses a private, almost artistic appreciation for cleverness, especially when an enemy creates the trap that destroys them.
Ideals
Devotion. The spider's web is made from obedience, betrayal, and suffering. I will become whatever shape Lolth requires, and I will call that transformation freedom.
Bonds
The spider scar on her face is Lolth's mark, and Malice would kill or die to protect anyone who can credibly interpret its divine meaning. She secretly preserves one black silk thread from House Travra's shrine, intending to return one day and weave the entire house into Lolth's service or ruin.
Flaws
Malice cannot tolerate mercy shown for its own sake. She interprets compassion as either weakness or concealed manipulation, and she is often correct just often enough to remain dangerous. She is also terrified that Lolth chose her for a single purpose and that, should she ever fail, she will discover there was never anything beneath the role called Malice.
Quirks
Background
Malice was born Aurelia of House Travra, a minor but ambitious Drow noble house whose daughters competed for the favor of Lolth. She entered the priesthood young, mastering liturgy, poison preparation, and the ritual language of sacrifice. She was clever enough to survive her first rivalries, but not ruthless enough to rise quickly. Then, during a nocturnal rite beneath the house shrine, a mass of sacred spiders descended upon her. They did not kill her. Instead, they crawled across her face and hands, leaving behind a pattern of wounds that the priestesses declared a divine summons. Lolth had chosen a blade, not another priestess. Aurelia abandoned her house name that same night. She became Malice, a name she treats as a function rather than an identity. She studied the martial traditions of surface warriors from stolen accounts, captured mercenaries, and forbidden travelogues, adopting curved blades, layered armor, colorful robes, formal bows, and ritualized duels. She calls her code the Way of the Black Widow. Its principles are simple, though never honorable by surface standards. Conceal the fang, make pain instructive, poison the strong, and never offer an enemy the fairness they have not earned. Every victory is a devotional act, and every betrayal is acceptable if Lolth is pleased.
“She entered the priesthood young, mastering liturgy, poison preparation, and the ritual language of sacrifice.”
