Appearance
Aurelia is a tall, exceptionally graceful drow woman with obsidian skin, long white hair braided with silver rings, and vivid violet eyes that rarely reveal emotion. Her movements are precise and economical, shaped by years of martial discipline and inquisitorial training. She wears dark, close-fitting travel clothes beneath a sleeveless charcoal mantle marked with the subtle spider sigil of House Malice. Her hands are wrapped in black cloth, and a narrow silver chain around her throat bears the seal of her office.
Mannerisms
She stands perfectly still while others speak, then tilts her head by a few degrees when she detects a lie. She cleans her fingernails with the tip of a dagger after interrogations and addresses nearly everyone by title rather than by name.
Personality
Coldly observant, controlled, and unfailingly polite, Aurelia treats conversation as an interrogation conducted at a slower pace. She appreciates competence wherever she finds it, but respect must be earned through discipline and usefulness. Her rare compliments sound like military evaluations, and her anger appears not as shouting but as a sudden, terrifying stillness.
Ideals
Order. Civilization survives when every person knows their place and every violation is answered with certainty. Freedom without hierarchy is simply a slower form of chaos.
Bonds
House Malice is both her bloodline and her greatest weapon. Aurelia will protect its secrets, restore its prestige, and eventually decide which members are worthy to inherit its power.
Flaws
Aurelia cannot resist testing the loyalty of everyone around her. She withholds vital information even from allies, assumes compassion conceals weakness, and would rather create a dangerous enemy than allow an insult to pass unanswered. Deep down, she fears that without House Malice's authority she is not an inquisitor at all, only another expendable weapon.
Quirks
Background
Aurelia Malice was raised beneath the stone cities of the Underdark, where House Malice taught its daughters that law was merely the weapon held by whoever possessed the strength to enforce it. She entered military service soon after reaching adulthood, serving as a silent officer in the house guard and later as an interrogator assigned to investigate treason, heresy, and disobedience. Her drow lineage granted her the gift of darkness-born magic, while the monasteries controlled by House Malice taught her to turn breath, balance, and pain into instruments of authority. She learned quickly that a confession obtained through terror was useful, but a confession obtained through perfect psychological pressure was permanent. When a senior priestess disappeared with evidence of a conspiracy against House Malice, Aurelia was appointed inquisitor and ordered to recover the documents, identify the conspirators, and erase every witness who could not be controlled. Her investigation exposed corruption reaching into the ruling council itself. Rather than destroy the evidence, Aurelia concealed it, preserving a weapon that could one day elevate her house above its rivals. Now she travels beyond the Underdark under the guise of a disciplined sellsword, pursuing fugitives, forbidden knowledge, and opportunities to expand House Malice's influence. She regards every alliance as temporary, every secret as a form of currency, and every act of mercy as an investment in future obedience.
“Her investigation exposed corruption reaching into the ruling council itself.”
