The Clocksda - AI-generated fantasy Faction

The Clocksda

Stage 1: Formation. Small rings pooled resources to survive a sweep. Freeman's truce and ritual unified them into The Clock. Stage 2: Consolidation. The Clock opened a watchmaker front to launder goods and employed trained forgers. Their thefts were surgical and rarely violent, gaining a reputation as 'clean thieves'. Stage 3: Expansion. For the next decades The Clock established Hands in other towns and traded intelligence with smugglers and corrupt officials. Stage 4: Occult Contact. A series of raids on deep-sea wrecks and a barter with a hermit scholar brought the guild into contact with faint traces of a kraken-touched cult and, through an intermediary, an illithid cabal studying mental resonance. Stage 5: Fracture. Over the last five years several senior Hands began showing signs of psychic alteration. Some made reckless orders, others vanished and returned with strange tastes. This produced factional paranoia. Stage 6: Present. A civil cold war simmers. Some Hands demand purges and return to old methods. Others, partially enthralled to a kraken-influenced agenda, push for secret acquisitions that could rewrite social control: tools of mass mind influence. The Clock now balances profit, secrecy, and survival amid threats from within and outside.

Founder’s Story

The Clock grew from the loose networks of pickpockets and fences that clustered around a bustling port city. Its nominal founding occurred after a violent crackdown nearly destroyed several independent rings. A pragmatic thief known only afterward as Thief General Freeman brokered a truce among rival leaders and proposed a different model: organize talent into discrete, accountable cells called Hands; codify the induction ritual around a symbolic lifting of a pocket watch; and centralize certain services such as forgeries and safe houses. Freeman believed the world could be robbed more cleanly if timing and discipline replaced chaos. Under his guidance the group professionalized, acquired fencing contacts, and formalized ranks.

The Mechanism of Intent

Public Goals
  • Protect members and reduce violent criminality in their territories
  • Provide discreet services to merchants and nobles
  • Support artisans and maintain the watchmaker fronts
  • Secret Goals
  • Complete and weaponize the illithid lattice to create limited-range crowd-influence at key market times, reengineering how information flows
  • Bind a select group of Hands into a psychic council controlled through a kraken-linked artifact to secure loyalty and prepare the guild for sea-borne dominion
  • Current Objectives
  • Reassert central command after a recent wave of mind-tampering incidents.
  • Expand safe houses in inland trade towns to control overland courier routes.
  • Recover a seized ledger that contains names of sympathetic officials and cutouts.
  • Long-Term Vision

A disciplined global network that controls information and private timing: a world where secrets are currency and The Clock sets the pace. Sub-factions envision different outcomes: one hopes for a secure, neutral broker of secrets; another, led by kraken-influenced Hands, dreams of a psychic web binding populations to a new order.

SuccessionFormally the Thief General appoints a successor from the Clockwrights. In practice power shifts through consensus among the Clockwrights and the support of the largest Hands. Recent compromises have made succession a flashpoint, as tide-influenced Hands might attempt to install a puppet.
