The Scarlet Brotherhood
The Brotherhood began as a containment order formed after the first opening of Gasabaf Momalee. For its first century, it operated as a wandering network of lighthouse keepers, ship captains, and exorcists. Its members monitored tides, dreams, disappearances, and unusual storms around the Gate. During the second century, the order became more militant after a rival kingdom attempted to seize the Gate and use it as a weapon. The Brotherhood destroyed the invading fleet, then used the victory to establish permanent authority over much of the Densac coastline. Its greatest triumph came during the Red Tide Crisis, when the Gate began opening by itself. The Brotherhood sacrificed an entire fortified harbor to complete the seven-seal ritual, saving the inland settlements but condemning thousands of civilians. The event became the watershed moment of the order. One faction viewed it as proof that ruthless sacrifice was necessary. Another faction believed the Brotherhood had allowed the crisis to worsen so it could strengthen its political power. In later centuries, the order developed a disciplined spy network, hidden schools, maritime patrols, and a complex code of ritual law. It alternated between protecting coastal communities and ruling them through fear. Its relationship with the other Gatekeepers deteriorated after the Brotherhood stopped sharing complete records. Today, it claims to guard Gasabaf Momalee for the good of the world, but its secrecy has made even its supposed allies uncertain whether it is a warden, conspirator, or prisoner of the Gate.
Secretive Gatekeeper order and coastal intelligence state · Lawful and severe in public practice, but internally divided between those who believe in necessary order and those who pursue domination for its own sake.
