Iron Chorus of Signalis
Phase 1 Formation and Survival: A ragged, charismatic war-priest turned a mercenary warband into a worshipful order. They survived by selling their services to petty lords while performing small, often brutal, miracles that built a reputation. Phase 2 Expansion through Contract: For decades they grew as a large mercenary guild that merged discipline with liturgy, building the Bastion and creating a priest-mercenary hybrid culture. Phase 3 The Velynaj Disaster: Eighteen years ago an overambitious ritual in Velynaj produced a plague of battle-locusts. The catastrophe killed thousands and fractured leadership. The order was denounced and hunted in many places. Phase 4 Reformation and Realpolitik: The surviving leadership embraced pragmatism. They forged legal contracts with border lords, professionalized their forces, and hid the worst of their theology behind layers of martial tradition. Since then they have quietly pursued relics and arcana that might make the failed ritual work correctly. Phase 5 Present: The Iron Chorus is large and dangerous. They balance a public mercenary offer with covert rituals and occasional acts of terror when necessary.
