The survivors turned that failure into a defining identity. They swore fealty to Surali, who they claim answered them in a dream of 'a thousand faces.' Under divine sanction they organized into the Veiled Choir and expanded rapidly, infiltrating temples, courts, and noble houses. They refined their mask-making into magical and alchemical arts, developed forgery networks, and established the Veiled Archive. In recent decades they shifted from clandestine profit to an ideological goal: a planned divine war where Surali would unmake the coherence of other gods by stripping their faces and followers.

Founder’s Story

Founded in the aftermath of a citywide plague 230 years ago. A charismatic mask-maker named Surael Venn inspired a small circle of survivors who believed the plague 'stripped faces' from people, revealing hidden truths and lies. They fashioned masks to 'hold' stolen faces and discovered many among them could alter their appearance. Over decades the circle learned to refine the craft and attract those who yearned to seize identity itself. A bloody watershed occurred 60 years ago when the cult attempted to steal the visage of a regional god's oracle. The theft failed but the ritual drew Surali's attention. The cult survived the purge that followed by promising fealty to Surali and by promising the god the means to unsettle other deities. That event transformed a band of thieves into a structured cult with divine patronage and a far larger, concealed purpose.

    A re-made divine order where gods no longer have fixed faces or exclusive worshipers. Surali rules as a being who collects and redistributes faces, making faith fluid and forcing mortals to depend on the Cult's gatekeepers for identity and protection.

The Mask Circle votes in a ranked fashion. A candidate who amasses a supermajority is ritually bound to Surali in a public Veiling Ceremony. Secret factions sometimes attempt assassinations to force favorable successors.
