The Iron-Seal Directorate
The Iron-Seal Directorate spent its first decades as a narrow infrastructure bureau, concerned mainly with regulators, transit relays, and municipal reservoirs. Its reputation changed during the Brass Fever Riots of 1214 TF, when counterfeit power permits allowed several guilds to divert energy from poorer galleries. Directorate wardens restored the grid, but their seizure of private equipment and mass arrests provoked weeks of unrest. The watershed moment came in 1246 TF during the Reservoir Accords. A coordinated sabotage attempt struck three reservoirs at once, forcing the Directorate to choose between obeying ordinary court procedure and sealing the city immediately. The then-commander, Seal-Marshal Ilyra Voss, invoked emergency authority, closed entire districts, and prevented a catastrophic cascade. The action saved Azimut, but it also expanded the Directorate’s charter permanently. Since then, the Iron-Seal has evolved into a citywide regulatory power. It protects people from sabotage, theft, and dangerous machines, yet its officers increasingly treat inconvenience as evidence of guilt. Today, the Directorate stands between Azimut and infrastructural collapse, while quietly becoming one of the forces most capable of causing a civic one.
