Founder’s Story

The Knotted Palms began with a single woman named Mira 'Halfpocket' Sael who, as a child, learned to lift bread and coins to feed her siblings. After being sheltered by the Rose and Rook tavernkeeper, Mira trained a handful of other desperate youths. They organized informal work shifts to minimize risk and developed the 'palms-in' method of dry distraction. Over two decades they built a reputation for being useful, quiet, and small-scale. Twenty-eight years after their founding, a violent crackdown nearly wiped them out. Six years ago, a charismatic fence named Tobren 'Knots' Kela restructured the survivors into a tighter cell model that prioritized secrecy and plausible deniability. The watershed moment came when Mira took a fall for a theft she did not commit to spare a newer member; public sympathy and a quiet bribe from an embarrassed merchant let her walk, but the event hardened the group and forced the reorganization.
