Founder’s Story

Sixty years ago a small band of ex-pirates and disgraced clerks arrived at the port after a mutiny left them with little but skill and guile. They bought a run-down tavern at the edge of the docks and a disused chapel that had once served sailors. The chapel was repurposed by an opportunistic pirate priest who kept blessings and curses in equal measure. The founders realized their best safety lay in appearing to be punters, clergy, and tavern staff while using both buildings as staging grounds for theft and smuggling. A watershed moment came thirty years ago when a coordinated raid they staged to seize a convoy failed and the guild was nearly eradicated by the city watch. The survivors rebuilt more secretive structures, instituted strict hierarchy, and created the myth of a flamboyant pirate captain as the public leader to divert attention from the real ruler who preferred to remain invisible.
